As I stated I live in one of the highest if not the highest property taxed county in NJ. I have no problem that my $$ goes to providing free lunches or breakfast. My G-d we are talking about children.

I raised my DD as a single parent I never thank G-d needed this service but I know those that did and I am happy that we in a lot of communites not only provide them during the school year but also in the summer. This is not what is wrong with the economy.

Why is it always the least among us that get dragged up and questioned first?

Not every parent is responsible. Not every parent packs their kids lunches - or even cares if they are dressed properly or get off to school safely. For some kids - this is the only real meal they get.

@eddyandme Then, why should the schools provide lunch? By your estimation, all the parents have the time and ability to pack a lunch for kids, right?

I'd probably feel the way same way if I were in your position.

If some property taxes are applied toward the district's schools, then the parents are paying that way, which doesn't excuse fraud.

I think all kids should get free lunches at school, but it really boils down to the local economy & how much money the schools have, or get, to spend on lunches.

Head Start is not designed for children with learning disabilities. Could you amplify on the meaning of your statement please?

There also is not any legal reason why a parent couldn't be employed during Head Start hours, except for the necessary documentation to certify financial eligibility for Head Start program guidelines.
