Re: Valentine Day Fun at the Back Fence

Mark up another vote for zicam. I always used the nasal swabs. Amazing I've been over taking care of my great granddaughter. She had an ear infection, pink ete and a horrible cough. I had taken my iPad over so will need to sanitize it a bit. She loves to play mr potato head on it Merle has been at the farm show and stopped to eat after it closed. He parked under a light but when he came out he found his brand new truck had been broken into. There were several others too. His was the only one that they popped the window on. I don't know if it was because Forf has those number locks on the outside or not. He had a backpack loaded with dealer information and price lists but what he really wishes they had left behind is his daily planner. That is his guide. It was looking pretty beat up in told him to go check the trash cans around the restaurant. It would be useless to anyone else. His computer was back at the hotel and he had his phone with him. He hasn't had time to really load it yet and I guess that is a good thing. Apparently they have a group from another state coming in and doing the robberies. It took him til 2:30 today to get a window back in. It is certainly too cold to be without one. I'm glad I didn't let the dentist office change my crown work to the 13th.

Yock, I am so sorry that Merle's truck was broken into and that he was robbed. I've been a victim of crime (mugged/car broken into) and I get so angry when I read about it happening to others. Even though the window can be repaired, the new truck/car experience has been ruined because of some wild thugs.

Re: Valentine Day Fun at the Back Fence

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! My honey brought me beautiful roses and had them in vases when I got up this morning. Beautiful colors including a soft lilac and lemon yellow, red and pink and white. I dug out our huge Valentine card that we give each other every year and have for quite a long time. Whoever gets to it first sets it up on the table and writes on it and adds the date, then we slide it back behind the deacon's bench for another year. I gave Jim a box of coffe flavored petit fours since he's the coffe lover though I tried them and they were quite good. I've always loved the smell of coffee, just not the taste, but the chocolate, nuts and sugar made it palatable.

I'm thankful Merle didn't walk out while the vandalism on his truck was occurring. That sort of thing just infuriates me{#emotions_dlg.mad}

Thanks for the chocolate candy, Bird Mama. Hope you didn't get pelted with another snow storm!

Happy end of the week all! Sue

Re: Valentine Day Fun at the Back Fence

Betty, what a horrible thing to happen to Merle re his truck. Just not fair at all is it. Am so glad he was ok and his timing was very good for him - he didn't show up at the truck when the idiots were there.

Very warm today - in the 80s - this is February isn't it? Was very busy today. Made TWO trips to San Bernardino today and was not any too happy about it but I guess it could be worse. LOL.

Tomorrow will go to church and they are having a meeting in the afternoon which I cannot attend. I strongly suspect they will make the decision to close the church. It was going great until the associate pastor tried to wrest power and money from the pastor and church and most of the members followed him in starting a church on his own. I did not approve of what he did - he was WRONG - but there are just not enough people to keep the church going now. I was so surprised that the bulk of the members followed him - am still bewildered at that based on what he did and his behavior was really bad. I am so disappointed as I followed that associate pastor to this church but would never go to any church now he is involved in. So disappointing. Of course I do not know what is going to happen but is obvious with only a handful of people there - and the pastor is 72 year old and was planning to retire at the end of this year and turn the reins over to the associate. Guess he just did not want to wait. So very sad. At this point if indeed that is what happens I have no clue where I will go. At my age just did not want to attend two churches that collapsed within months of each other and certainly am not anxious to start checking out other churches. Darn it all anyhow.

I fixed a bunch of stuffed peppers and had them sitting in the kitchen. Tessa went in and saw a cat munching on one and like a teen she swatted at the cat - guess what. Every one of the stuffed peppers wound up on the floor and then, of course, in the garbage,. I was NOT happy at Tessa nor the cat. Needless to say, I did not get any dinner - sure was a lot of time in preparing them and money buying what was needed to wind up in the garbage. {#emotions_dlg.angry}

Hope all had a great Valentine's Day!!

Freddie - what a shame that there has been in-fighting and power struggles in of all things - a Church. Makes me wonder if these pastors understand He is watching. I'm sorry that you are running out of places to worship and find fellowship.

Re: Valentine Day Fun at the Back Fence

Yes, it was a nasty thing for Merle to experience. He had been at the Farm Show till late and decided to eat at the Outback. His was the only vehicle that they broke the glass on. One of the other victims had called the police. Merle said it had turned cold for KY that evening and so he had to wait outside the truck because the seat was full of glass. When the Cop came, he sat in his warm, heated police car and took the report. He did get out long enough to see if a stain on the seat might be blood but said it was not. Then he left. Merle put on gloves and brushed the glass out of the seat so he could drive back to his motel. He only had a black towel to hang over the opening which was not very successful because he couldn't see his mirrors. Fortunately the motel was not far away. They took one of his favorite brief cases which he didn't carry because it was so heavy. It was leather and he had had it many years and just used it between the seats to store his books in. I think they took anything they thought might have a computer in and luckily his was in the motel. He is a pen collector and they had dumped all of those in a box. lol He had a Toro back pack which carried his current literature and sales prices and his daily planner. That is what he misses most. We went out and got a new planner today but all that info that could only be read by him is gone. I said you need to put more notes on your computer. But of course if they had gotten that, the info would still be gone. I suspect as next week goes on he will find out more things that he doesn't have info on. People have no regard for other peoples property. He spent the next day getting a window put in but it doesn't lock properly and they didn't take the door panels off to clean out the glass inside the door. He will take it locally and try to get it fixed properly. At least he had a window because it is bitterly cold in Indiana. We didn't have much snow but what we had blew and caused whiteouts which caused 30 and 70 car pile ups. I told him before he left KY but when you are in clear weather it is hard to imagine the whiteouts. We are very fortunate that we are not in the East.

Churches, unfortunately can be very political and divides can happen easily. Our former church was destroyed by fire. There are wonderful people there and it has taken them two years to get it rebuilt. One of the former ministers came in as they were completing their rebuild and didn't like the way the present minister was doing things. He was able to break off a group of people who I never thought could be swayed especially by him. So sad. We left the church because our ex son in law was choir director and it was awkward after he and my daughter divorced. We still have a fondness for the church and its people and hate to see the division. I think some of them will return at least I hope so. We are happy in our new church (been there several years) and it also has good people. But several times groups have broken off because of one thing or another - didn't like the way the youth program was run or didn't like the music. Wasn't contemporary enough or was too contemporary. Sometimes those things can be so distracting that the real reason for being there gets lost.

Re: Valentine Day Fun at the Back Fence

Epi - I went to Mardi Gras in the early 90's and when I was there, the slightest dusting of snow fell. My sister and I were staying at a Holiday Inn and when folks ran to the window to look outside, I thought oh God, what happened. Apparently many of the folks at the hotel weren't used to snow. We had left several inches back in MI, so it was like being in the Bahamas for us. {#emotions_dlg.lol}

Re: Valentine Day Fun at the Back Fence

Looks like we are going to be in the deep freeze for awhile. We had a little snow last night but had very little accumulation. More worrisome today is the wind which are to pick up this afternoon. I always fear loss of power. Went and got a pedicure yesterday. I almost cancelled but then I had a toe that needed attention. It was mighty cold but I only had to go from the curb to the door. While I was there she had two cancellations and she was not happy about it but boy did I get a nice foot massage Then dumb me picked up my purse after paying her and got into my car before realizing I left my coat inside. Guess my feet felt so good I thought I was on vacation.
