Re: Vaccinaed but still won't

Did anyone else see the teacher on one of those entertainment shows?

She was saying she felt like she had Covid since she got it back in April and she got very sick after the first vaccine shot.

But after she got the second one, she said it was amazing because she had more energy than she’d felt for a long time.

Now they are questioning if the Covid vaccine might possibly get rid of Covid if you have it.

I didn’t realize that for some people it hangs on for a long time.

Is anyone else aware of that?

When things opened up in our area we were there. Restaurants started with outdoor dining, then not to long after, indoor at limited capacity. We have always been going. Husband was at grocery store, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. almost every day during the past year. We also went on vacation last summer. We always wear a mask out and in stores as it is required. And we also visited family. Tomorrow our restaurants open to 90% capacity.

I am not being confrontational, @proudlyfromNJ, but I am surprised about your comfort with dining out since you had mentioned that you had friends who died from covid.

@tansy  The friends who died from Covid died when all this began to happen, no one knew what it was and there were no specific guidelines in place. Since then, no one we know has died as regulations were put in place. Masks,  social distancing, etc. The restaurants when first opening were outdoors only and eventually opened up indoors. All this was according to our states guidelines for opening. We feel the Governor wouldn't have given the ok for all this if it wasn't safe.

Re: Vaccinaed but still won't

A new study came out a couple of days ago showing that the Pfizer vaccine is 94% effective at preventing asymptomatic spread.  I'm not sure there is any data for Moderna or J&J.

Also, I saw something scroll across the news this morning that the vaccine is effective for "at least 6 months."

I am uncertain what some people assume "family gathering" is.  What is different about that if your family is out and about and among the public during the day, like other people.

What about "family" makes them safer?  Not sure I get that totally.

If they are unvaccinated, there is no difference.  In fact, when we just had that horrible spike in cases here, contact tracing was showing that the majority of the cases were coming from family gatherings like birthday parties, baby showers, wedding showers, other family parties and from family members bringing it into the home.

It was not from being out in retail establishments, restaurants, bars, etc.

I have never been afraid to get out and go about my normal routine and certainly not now. I am still on the fence as to whether or not I will even take the vaccine. My doctor told me that even she would not be rushing out to get it. I refuse to live in fear and personally, sick of all the never-ending media talk about it.

I feel the same way....it's the media that is driving the fear & panic!  I feel my anxiety going up when I watch the news.  It's on 24/7...never ending...always the leading story and most of the time the only story.

At first it was the virus coming to a town by you, then the lockdown, then the ever increasing numbers of "cases" & deaths...people on ventilators (too awful!), next we heard the promise and hopes of the vaccine...now the never ending story is how many are getting the vaccine and the logistics of obtaining it in each city!

When I skip the news for a few days I feel so much calmer.  I see people out & about everyone in my area is wearing a mask indoors but outdoors it's different.  I see plenty of cars on the road so people are still going places.

As the weather gets warmer I will spend more time outdoors and will feel much better when I can.  I simply can't live in constant fear.

I am certainly aware for some people who had Covid that symptoms can linger.  They are called long haulers.  It is all over the news.

Re: Vaccinaed but still won't

When we receive our 2nd shot in April, we will still wear our masks in public. Won't be going to indoor restaurants. Will sit outside like we do now. Yes, even when it was lightly snowing we sat outside on the patio of our favorite brewery enjoying the new release. Not a big deal. We will visit with family and friends more. take weekend trips. When the scientists/medical field give the official okie dokie then the masks will come off.  It isn't living in fear, it is being smart and limiting your exposure.  Very happy so many are getting their vaccinations. The more that do, the closer the country is to getting back to "normal" whatever that may look like in the future.

Do grocery shopping, but wont go into retail stors yet, there isnt anything I need bad enuf vs potential risk..

How about you??

I think you're being prudent. You know that you're vaccinated but who knows about all those people in markets, retail stores, etc. I'm (finally) fully vaccinated and I share your concern.

Re: Vaccinaed but still won't

It's new and so little known about the vaccine. It's unsettling to know 30% of the military refuse to take the vaccine.

So many doctors, so many different views of course make people not know what to believe. The Presidenty recently said we would all be comfortable at a family 4th of July gathering.

I got my first shot of Moderna Thurs. and my second on April l4th. I don't believe I will feel less vulnerable then. With different strains progressing, nobody knows if our three vaccines will take care of the mutations.

Like Influenza, I believe Covid 19 will always be here and we will receive a vaccine annually, hoping to counteract new strains.
