What a stunning couple--
To their credit, she adored cats, and he supported her in that...
Doesn't he look really "checked out", miles away in his mind, in this photo of them? In still photos, he sometimes looks goofy, in so far as a man that handsome can look goofy, ha.
Sweet.
For much of their time together, Olivier was dazzled by Leigh. He once tried to describe how beautiful he found her to a friend ( Maybe Noel Coward? Not sure). He said, in an awe-struck tone-- "Her neck, her neck is as long as your forearm....)
This picture is so bittersweet, since it was during the long, slow disintigration of their relationship. Infidelity, mental illness, etc. There were still so many feelings, as evidenced in the photo--

They do look gorgeous.

For me, no one could have played Scarlett other than Vivien Leigh. Don't know that much about Laurence Olivier and I guess I must have been living under a rock because I didn't even know they were a couple.

He was such a brilliant actor and she was such a beauty. It's sad that she was so tomrented by her own mind. He did adore her, even their marriage failed.

They were married twenty years: 1940 to 1960. Fascinating relationship. And tragic.

Her last film role was in Stanley Kramer's Ship of Fools (1965).

I agree, Oznell, a stunning couple as you said! Vivien and Laurence had beauty and class and looked so good together. Sadly there were issues which did harm to their marriage but I believe they loved each other throughout the years. Olivier was one of the top actors of his time, so impressive in his roles and Vivien always lit up the screen in her many roles. Thanks for the wonderful photos!!!

While reading a biography of Vivien, it was heartbreaking to read about the disintegration of their marriage. They seemed so right together &, I believe, they left their first marriages & children for each other.

They were both superb actors, and were probably very high maintenance and extremely emotional in their relationships.
I think a similar situation happened with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, and maybe even Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
Power couples have to make sure not to destroy each other!
