Update on My Whirlpool Cambrio Washer

The repairman came to my house this afternoon - still under my 5-yr warranty. He told me that the motor in my washer DIED.

I went to Lowes - 5 minutes away - and bought another Whirlpool - same model. Previous Whirlpool only cost $500 - I had gotten it on sale. The same washer I purchased today was $679. - I was charged $30 to take away broken washing machine (5 yrs ago, they didn't charge) - and the 5 yr warranty is now $130. (5 yrs ago I paid $99).

A friend recommended the LG - which was more expensive - and had an electonic window on the top right of the machine. I just wanted SIMPLE!!!

It will be delivered on Friday.

I'm electronically challenged - and other washing machine brands received many good and many bad reviews.

@kivah

if it was still under warranty why did you have to go and purchase a new machine?

Warranties have many exclusions - so I knew putting in a new motor wasn't something that would be covered.

Lucky you, I absolutely HATE my Whirlpool Cabrio HE washer and can't wait for it to die.....never again.

It seems like a motor would be covered in the warranty.  I know there's so many exclusions though.

It's terrible that major appliances don't last as long as they used to.  Something needs to be done about it, I think.

I have this same washer and I really like it, however, the bearings go out of it all the time. (Need to mention it does get heavily used). I'm lucky b/c my husband can fix just about anything, so he has been able to put new bearings on it each time.

@kivah  They don't make them like they used to.  I have an LG front loader so far so good.  Knock on wood.  I do miss my old Maytag Neptune though. Had that one for 16 years.

I had this Whirlpool for 5 years without one problem. Even if I have this new one for 5 years (bought the 5 yr warranty) -- I'll be happy.

The manufacturers don't want big or small appliances to last long. Forces us to buy new ones - so they could get very RICH.

We splurged and bought a new Speed Queen washer.  They have the highest ratings on all consumer reports.

It is a top load, heavy metal machine with a good agitator.

Our Sears Kenmore lasted 35 years.
