For 24 hours DH and I unplugged, as in we did not watch tv or go on line. (Including I did not go on Snapchat or Instagram either on my phone) I even wrote my grown kids before hand and said we were doing this so if they needed us to call on our house phone..
The results? I was calmer,(not hearing OR reading bad news stories). I read an entire book (and a half of another book), AND we talked more than usual, and we went grocery shopping. (That's not to say we dont talk other times but DH usually is doing his ancestry research and I'm online). Then we have dinner, watch the news and our shows (this is all after he is done working). I am home in the day time, so I am usually online.
I was a bit bored later last night (and thought to myself wow we are really addicted to electronics in this world,,lol), because he goes to bed at 9 and Im a late nighter. But i played with the cat and read more.
Moral of the story we will do this more often. The minute I got back on Facebook today, I regretted it and signed off, and am considering deleting it. (Since back on line, I did however go to email and on this site as you can see, lol). But I refrained from reading news so far, while online. (Although I do beleive everyone should be informed of the news, but we get the paper so I had that to read also).

I almost did the same thing...I disconnected but read books, watched movies and listened to music on my faithful Kindle.

I live alone...I could never do that...my tv is on 24/7 ...and i am always on my computer or a tablet playing solitaire...
I would be more of a wreck if i did turn everything off...not calm like you were...
Glad it worked for you...

I haven't unplugged anything but I stopped watching or listening to the news a while back. In my opinion, too much nonsense and scare tactics.

I didn't have tv or radio on yesterday, as I knew it would upset me. I didn't visit any news sites just stopped in here a few times , till it got ugly. I called a friend , read my kindle and made spaghetti sauce. It was a calm day, and I think I will try it more often. Since I' be had the iPad I spend way too much time online. I just love Netflix. LOL.

I unplug regularly. If you shop Cabela's they have an "unplug" pledge you can sign when you enter the store. It encourages families to head to the outdoors. Together.
I don't FB or Instagram....mostly because I don't know what I'd say! I baked a batch of oatmeal cookies yesterday. Stopped by the naturopath's today. No devices allowed there. Period.
I read news & weather online. Far quieter!

Hey @Shorty2U,
If it works for you have at it. While I have been an electronics geek since I was 15 years old, none of them, including the present technologies available, dictated how I lived or live my life.
What I see nowadays with cell phones, that are very smart, with many people is this. In my opinion, some are addicts, and their cell phones dictate their way of life. I see it much like smoking or alcohol (and I am a recovering addict of this substance).
When ones life is taken over by a substance/a cigarette, or an electronic gizmo, to me they are all an addiction for many. While electronics is my thing, cell phones have(even the smartest ones), never interested me beyond using them to make a phone call.
I have no desire to give a minute by minute account of my waking hours to people on the other end of FB, or any other such social media type. I keep up on the latest national news daily, be it bad or good. Local news does not interest me in the least, for several different reasons.
This BB and forums is the closest I ever go on a regular basis. While I tell a lot about my life and it's many experiences, I see it as nothing even close to some that use their electronic devices as another appendage, that appear to have grown from their ears.
Takes differences to make life, and people more interesting. Overall? I prefer those with 4 legs and fur much of the time.

Good for you, now you'll be all set for when the power goes out in bad weather. It is more relaxing isn't it? LOL

@Shorty2U I deleted Facebook earlier this year and have not regretted it for one minute, besides these forums, I hardly ever go online anymore, and I DVR all my shows so I skip the commercials and unless I am watching a DVR program I do not watch TV, I used to have TV on as background noise but I stopped that around 2 weeks ago, and found I no longer need it. I own a tablet, but unless I am playing just the 1 game or reading a Kindle book, it sits! I do not own a cell phone, so unless my landline rings, you will not find me on the phone either!
Will these small actions change MY world, no, but it sure makes the load I am carrying a bit more peaceful!

I watched Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon...then took a walk with the dog to enjoy the unusually warm weather.....
