I am going to court as a witness for my insurance company.  I was rear ended by a Jimmy's Cab in October 2017.  The driver had no insurance !

He lied to the cops and told them he had insurance.

I was okay  -  my car was not.  His license plate was stamped in my bumper and the impact broke my seat.  Luckily my seat (and bumper) absorbed the impact.

The passenger in his back seat is suing him.

He had money to fly home to Dubai for the Holidays for 2 months - but no money to pay his insurance.

My DH was hit by an unlicensed, non-insured, and not a legal citizen.  My husband was standing in our driveway and this person not used to driving on snow and ice swerved off the road and into my husband as he was walking in from the mailbox.  Of course, I have a strong opinion about illegals.

OMGoodness - thats terrible !

it’s a law in NY that you must have car insurance. Is it not in other states?

its a law in maryland also......it doesnt stop some people from driving though and it doesnt stop some people from letting their insurance lapse. some think they wont ever get caught. there are stiff fines though.

WHO issues the stiff fine when the person LIES about not having insurance?  The cops have left the scene and the persons with the damaged car and hospital bills is left to fight it out.

I have Progressive but I am not sure its worth the cheap rates for what has happened in the last 2 years.

I am in Maryland too (Towson).

I pay for "uninsured motorist" on our vehicles policy. Seems like nowadays there are way too many with no insurance, but still just "motoring along anyways". Never had any crashes so not sure how, and if it works. Hopefully I will never have to find out.

I pay uninsured motorist fee's also however I still don't know why I have to go to court in Progressives behalf to collect their costs for repairing my car.  I was rear ended by an uninsured CAB DRIVER - and their employer is supposed to check for insurance on a monthly basis.

ITSA MESS !

I do think it is fascinating that people here illegally now apparently have no problem obtaining a driver's license, but somehow actual citizens cannot be expected to obtain any sort of ID to vote - because it's just too hard to do.

And since almost every state only requires checking a block to indicate citizenship when registering to vote, do we really believe those here illegally won't also register?  I mean it's not as if breaking the law is something they would never do - especially when it's to their advantage and they can easily see the benefits of doing so.

I live in New Jersey. It takes 6 points and different forms of ID to, get or renew a driver's license.

I checked voter registration in NJ. You have to give your NJ license  or state issued ID number. You can not simply check a box. Each state has its own requirements to vote.

Re: Unlicensed drivers

[ Edited ]

Same thing happened to my husband & the driver was an illegal. No license, no insurance.  He had his boss's car, he barely spoken English.  All he could say was, "no deport".  We didn't contact the police, but upon thinking more about it, we should have.

I have regular medical issues and receive a packet of CMS statements.

While I was looking through the statements I noticed the hospital and ambulance charges where there.

Guess who paid for THAT - as taxpayers Medicare and my Secondary Insurance paid for that.  I didn't say anything because I was afraid I would have to pay.

Stinko didn't make it to court today - he was being sued for the damages to my car from the insurance company.

As people, we try to understand but it's ridiculous.  We are being chumped for being kind.

Thank Goodness DH is okay but I am done.

Crazy facts that I know.....you are NOT required to have car insurance in NH. I also believe this is true in Ohio.

i truly do not understand this at all and any possible reasoning behind it.
