I was expecting some packages to be delivered today via UPS, and I was tracking them through my Amazon account.
Tracking said that they were to be delivered by 9 pm.
At about 7:45pm, I heard the truck stop in front of my house, and the delivery guy rang my doorbell.
By the time that I answered my door, he was gone.
I had three packages, and one unexpected surprise package.
I brought all four packages in, and the surprise package was a desktop dehumidifier.
This item was not in a brown box, just the box that the manufacturer put the item in, and had a shipping label slapped on to it.
The dehumidifier was addressed to someone two towns over.
I was going to make a trip to UPS tomorrow to make sure that the dehumidifier got to the rightful owner.
About ten minutes later, I again hear the UPS truck stop in front of my house, and my doorbell ring.
I grabbed the dehumidifier and answered the door.
I smiled as I said to the UPS guy , "I bet you're looking for this.".
He said in a relieved voice, "Yes! Thank-you!".
So the dehumidifier is on its way to its rightful owner.

I'm sure he really appreciated your honesty!

Not only was it the right thing to do, it was the only thing to do.
I couldn't, in good conscience, keep something that I knew wasn't mine.
I mean, if a package had my name on it got misdelivered to the wrong address, I would want that person to return it to me, so why wouldn't I do the same?
Also, I didn't want the UPS guy to get into trouble for accidentally delivering the wrong package.

Indeed indeed it was the right thing to do @Anonymous032819 .
In Greece we have a saying " one hand washes the other ". God is watching and He will pay you back for your right righteousness.

Last week, a large package was delivered to me. Right house number.........WRONG STREET. I put it in my car, and took it to the correct address. I would hope that someone else would do the same favor.

I love it when good people do good things. We need more.
We get mail sometimes from previous residents and we always send it to get back to them. Last year on New years eve, my neice and I were driving out and saw a lost dog and no owner in sight. It was 1am. We both love animals and helped this dog, called the phone # on his collar and literally drove him to their house two streets over. The owners didnt even know that he was gone. In any case, I always have this motto in my heart, "Do to others as you would have wanted done to you."

It's good that he realized his error and came right back for the package to be delivered to the rightful customer. His actions saved someone from keeping the package, not that you were going to.

a few years ago I had 4 amazon packages that weren't mine delivered to me within a few weeks. They were all for a neighbor in another building with an address one number different from mine.
the good thing that came out of the error was that I met a sweet neighbor —. And her family and dog.
