Just finished this book by Laura Hillenbrand (author of "Seabiscuit"). I think it's been out for a while. I enjoyed "Seabiscuit" so I thought I would try this one. What a great story, it grabs you right from the very beginning. The story of Louis Zamperini (whom I had never heard of before) he was a promising runner in the 30's. It was thought he would be the first person to break the four minute mile. He competed in the 1936 Olympics and was one of the favorites to win the mile in the 1940 Olympics (which were subsequently canceled due to WWII). He then went on to enlist in the Air Corps and was shot down over the Pacific, survived for over 40 days on a raft, and was captured by the Japanese and held in a POW camp for several years. An almost unbelievable story of survival. I would highly recommend this book and hope they make it into a movie or mini-series.....
