I had an umbrella for 10 years that I loved. It just broke. I'm having trouble finding one I like.

44-46" diameter

auto open and close

sturdy

Any thoughts?

That size is often sold in sporting good stores for spectators.  Might look there, I know that is where I got mine.  A bit pricey, but worth it.

Have you tried a shop that specializes in travel? That might be a place to look.

Check out the Repel line of windproof umbrellas, they are not inexpensive but I've had mine for over 25 years.

Funny you should ask.  I just bought a pack of two from Amazon on the recommendation of NY Times Wirecutter.  I haven't had the chance to use them yet, but they seem sturdy enough.  The manufacturer is Repel.  Opened, they are 42" (for two people) in diameter, are auto open and close, and can withstand wind up to 85 mph I think it states.  Anyway, I got two for $40 but they have lots of options, colors, etc.

I just got two from Amazon.  They seem pretty awesome.  I use using a cheapy umbrella that I got from Costco years and years ago and thought, okay, it's time to get serious.  LOL!

I love rain, rain boots, rain coats and umbrellas.

I've got a selection of at least five regular umbrellas. One lives in my car, the others in an umbrella stand.

Now I need to get a big wind proof automatic one.

I have one by Kate Spade I bought maybe 15 years ago.  Sturdy as heck. I am in CA, never used it here.  I did on a trip to NY. WhT I like about it is, it's clear and the side come low.  So when I open it it comes over my shoulders.  Totally protected my face, hair, etc in wind, rain.  I loved that I could see out. Was very sturdy. But I see there might be a couple more heavy duty selections.
