I have Informed Delivery through the Post Office. This is a service that allows you to see what is being delivered to you on a daily basis. I had no mail delivered on Monday and today which is unusual. Then I saw on social media that postal employees cannot collect overtime and they are being told to not deliver mail instead of overtime. As far as I know, the law requires the post office to deliver mail 6 days a week. This could become a critical problem if the post office did not deliver ballots at the midterms in the fall.

@chessylady  What about your tv & radio "local" news?

I don't watch local news but I intend to keep tabs on this and contact the post office if it continues. It could be a one off.

@Desertdi except it said I had no mail on Monday and no mail today. If it shows mail, there is an advisory that it will be delivered the next day. Another interesting fact is that some time in the past, I was told by the post office that if they have no mail to deliver, they do not have to pick up any mail you have set out to be picked up. On Monday,I had to make a trip to the post office to mail a card for my brother's birthday to ensure he received it by his birthday.

@chessylady   I understand your concern, however, when we had 15" of snow in January, I did not receive mail for 11 business days (not counting Sundays).  Our local news said arrange to pick it up.  You get to the post office, and big notes, No P/U, we will deliver ASAP.  Did not get mail for four more days.  They can and will do whatever they want.

I didn't HAVE to have any of it, but others I know needed some pieces. (Meds).  I understand the day or two of clearing the big amounts of snow,  but everyone else worked 2-3 days in. Not 11 days later.  Just sad.

@lynnie61 so sorry that happened. The govenment has been trying to get rid of post offices and completely privitize postal services to a company like UPS or whichever business is willing to pay a big bribe. The people in rural areas will be hurt the most when this happens and of course the price to mail something will go sky high.

If Informed Delivery showed you not having ny mail to be delivered then what are you concerned about?

Furthermore if you see on Inf Del that no mail is being delivered then that would alert you to not put out mail to be picked up. And to go to the PO as you did.

Whatever you saw on social media is untrue.  Here is the current OT policy for the post office.  I also checked the usps website for contrary information, but there is none.

Don't automatically believe everything you read on social media.  Do your own research.  Maybe you simply didn't have any mail.  Maybe it was the tornadoes from last week or maybe the recent polar vortex and snow.  Lots of places have taken a beating.  Did you get your mail on Wednesday?
