@millieshops I had not put into perspective your comment, but yes you are right!  If we put the effort into stopping violence that we have into COVID it would make a huge difference.

I guess that's what made me so mad and I posted about the Dr. Phil episode a few days ago.  It seems we just sort of overlook a lot of crime now.

@Sooner    I don't feel we overlook it as there's plenty of talk and news reports about it, but we seem to tolerate it.  If the mob robbery at Nordstrom's had occurred 30 years ago, all hell would have broken loose among outraged citizens.  Now everyone is sort of ho-hum and they move on.

I hope cops are making every effort to identify and prosecute the offenders in some of these recent thefts.  They did a great job pinpointing those who participated in the Jan. 6th debacle, so it can be done.

Your comment about 30 years ago is absolutely correct.  If you think about, a lot of folks on this forum were in their 30's, 40's or 50's 30 years ago.  And going back even further, we would have been in school, at some grade level, in the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's.  So much has changed.

Back then, in school, you learned how to read, write, do math, learned history/geography/science, home ec, shop, etc., and how to think, not what to think.  Politics and sex were never in the classroom at any level.  Your parents usually took care of that part of your education.  You needed a signed permission slip from a parent to get a polio shot or to go on a class trip to a museum.  Without a signed permission slip you couldn't take part in some activities. I've seen stories in the news lately where those parental permissions are disregarded or non-existent in some cases.

Not everything is perfect and there is always room for improvement but, in my opinion, courtesy and respect for a lot of things have fallen by the wayside.

Wonder if this will get poofed.  :smileyfrustrated:

Crime and the number of thugs in Oklahoma has shot up since marijuana was made legal.  There thousands of growers.  Some "legal" with state paperwork, many or most not.  The authorities are way outnumbered.

Many of the illegal growers are crime organization based which is awful. I cannot believe this state voted for it.  I feel sure that election was bought and paid for.

Don't let them fool you when it is all for "medical use" either.  What a lie.

@Melzie  I am very surprised about the lack of safety in schools   in your news for parent consent especially field trips??  The schools are I worked in both private and public were always  extremely  afraid of any safety and liability lawsuits. Add discrimination suits especially with Special Needs and Handicapped students and that has expanded in present day. I had a book to read concerning lawsuits for a  college class in school administration. Some cases legitimate and some frivolous.

A child fell off  tbe playground  equipment  in a  private school I worked in and broke her arm. The  Mother  threatened to sue. The school proved there was a playground aide there. Adult supervision at all times  and  staff never leave a classroom or a written reprimand in any school I worked in.

Parent consent forms signed. Sometimes a blanket one is done at the beginning of the year for photos they may do that for field trips as well on file?

I had Sex Ed.as part of health class in the 70s. It was more Biology oriented.  In the 1990s parents could request that their child be taken out of  health class when the Sex Ed. section was taught. We had to monitor computer use to assure educational use only. Phones prohibited in classrooms only use between classes or before or after school. I am sure that has gotten out of hand and difficult to control nowdays.

@rosanadana    The etiquette on boards such as this is to indicate to whom you are speaking, otherwise your comment is wasted effort.
