One random thing it could be useful for that I can think of is if a bank or CC company was mailing you a new CC, or if you knew a check was being mailed to you. But if they don't show you all of what's coming (letter-sized) it wouldn't be good for that either.
I've had it for a few months, and it's always showed everything, other than packages and supermarket circulars, things of that type. It also shows mail that is larger than letter size. After a 2-week breaking-in period, it's been 100% accurate for me every day.
Of course not everyone will find it valuable, but I like it a lot and I think it's great that we all have the option of knowing in advance what will be in our mail each day.

I like this service too and there is a link under each scanned piece of mail in case you don't receive it. I had to use that just once and the missing letter was in my mailbox the next day.

Suppose to tell you what mail you will be receiving before you get your mail.
I opted for it, then, wondered if it was for real.
@SharkE Yes. It is legitimate. I gave been getting this for several months. I like knowing what should be in my box.....if it is not there, than I can investigate further. It is like a heads up. I read that they plan in the future to also show packages and such.
@SeaMaiden- that's exactly why I signed up for it. So that if something it says will be delivered and it doesn't, I'll have a starting place.
We really like our regular mail deliverer and he's normally pretty good, but there are slip ups and if he's on vacation sometimes things don't go so well.

I think back to when I was growing up and all the old people ran to the mailbox when they knew their SS checks were being delivered and had to protect them from being stolen out of their mailboxes.
Now, I'm one of the 'old people' LOL, but, my check goes to direct deposit and we can check online when we know it's due to hit then I can send it to QVC LOL

Have never had any problem with USPS and was surprised when this arrived in my email a few months ago. My carrier has always been excellent. However, I signed up to see if the service was worth the time and cost involved!
There are problems areas and this would be extremely helpful. Would have expected those zip codes to be FIRST in line! In my neighborhood it simply is a waste of our postal employees time and resources; yet we were among the first to have it initiated. Haven't heard of anyone missing mail or incorrect deliveries. Agree this is probably not the norm. Thus, what a great way to track the mail . . . and larger deliveries in the future!
Sad that our sodiety has come to need this, isn't it?

Seems to me as though the post office would do well to quit photographing mail and get out there and get our packages delivered. Why does anyone need to know what bills and ads they'll be receiving?

When you sign up for informed delivery you can log in and opt to receive emails and/or texts anytime a package is en route to your address. It will then notify you every time the package is scanned.
With UPS My Choice, informed delivery and the USPS option to automatically track packages, I now can keep tabs of every package and most of my mail without lifting a finger.

@Kachina624 you speak the gospel ! Wish they would tell me where my pkg is located instead of not answering at all and I get it finally and now they said "pkg delivered" , well, no _____. Who cares if your getting more charity begging and political junk.
I opted out.

I like getting an email with what's in my mailbox. I have one of those cluster mailboxes (not in front of the house) and can't tell you how many times I go to it to find nothing in it or a few pieces of junk mail. Now if I'm expecting something important, I know when it's been delivered.
Photographing the mail isn't new, USPS has already been photographing every letter and package mailed in the United States—a practice started after anthrax attacks in 2001 killed five people, including two postal workers. So this new email notification system to customers may not necessarily add extra work or cost to the agency’s current processes. The images are stored for 7-30 days and then destroyed. Several times the images have helped law enforcement agencies such as local police, FBI and Homeland Security.
Emailing scanned images to customers has been available in certain areas since December 2015 and is voluntary, so you don't have to sign up for it if you don't want it.
