You've got candid, and most likely long distance, shots that have in many cases been cropped and enlarged resulting in grainy images that look like skin damage but is really just lousy editing. Many of the before make-up shots are taken as they are leaving the gym for goodness sake, and others you can see they caught sight of the photog and are scowling. Then you've got posed shots for the afters. It's all orchestrated for effect.
I think it's a shame that women can't embrace who they are without make-up rather than being embarrassed by their appearance. It's definitely healthier for your skin to skip the make-up, even make-up that's supposedly good for your skin. Cleanse, moisturize, protect and go!
