Re: US Figure Skating Nationals

For some strange reason, I do NOT like Ashley or Gracie.  I can't figure it out.  But I never miss any of the competitions.  I'm watching right now.

IMO, there will never be another Michele Kwan.  How Olympic Gold eluded her I will never understand.

Ashley makes it pretty easy to dislike her.  I hated her long program when she used it last year.  I cannot believe a skater of her calibre chose to use the same long program 2 years in a row.

After the short program, I was pulling for Polina.  That being said, Gracie was close to perfection.

Re: US Figure Skating Nationals

I've been a figure skating fan all my life. While I sometimes have some favorite performers, I keep an open mind and stay open to being swept away by whatever performance moves me. In the ladies' final, I thought Polina was lovely, but when Gracie performed, for me it was magic.

Although it is technically considered a sport, I hate it when a performer breaks character to showboat in a "Yeah, did you see that move--I aced it!" manner. That is one of the things I don't care for in Ashley's skating.

Re: US Figure Skating Nationals

Though I grew up in a country where there was no ice or snow, there was a great, big indoor ice skating rink!!  My friends and I spent many vacations skating there...not so much for technique, but a great place to meet young men!  I still have my skates in the garage!  I could manage some very simple "tricks" on ice. I love watching the really good skaters perform those amazing stunts.  I do agree, there is something about Ashley that makes her unlikable....

Ashley is 24? She looks like she's in her mid 30's.

Re: US Figure Skating Nationals

i think Ashley looks better as a dark blonde.  it must be humiliating to see skaters much younger doing so much better. i kind of felt bad for her. she is at the upper end of competitors and age is huge at this level.

Tara Lipinski was the female commentator besides the older lady.  Tara is 33 and she won her GOLD when she was 15!     only 9 years older than Ashley, who has a Bronze medal for the 2014 team event in Sochi. Tara looks great!

the camera flashed on Dorothy Hamill in the audience, Michelle Kwan and Evan  Lyasek and a few others.

(   i had a little b&w TV at college when i watched Dorothy Hamill win at Innsbruck,  Austria in 1976.         the "snow' on the screen left little to see the images but the audio worked and said it all!  )

OMG

When I realized Adam Rippon was going to win, I told my husband I bet Ashley would get herself on camera.  AND, she did.
