Very. Important. Words to. Hear.

And the posters before and more likely after me will be giving him a

big ‘woo-hoo’ when they have been ugly-with-words in the present/past.

Hopefully they will take a look within....and reflect.  If not, ‘get out’.

Thank you General.

It is about time our leaders take a strong stand for decency, honor and respect.

Being a bully is not what our country should condone from anyone.

Amen @hennypenny.

“Language” can be a real pain in the neck, @sidsmom. I think you would agree with me that there are probably no two people on these boards that disagree more than you and I do, yet I deeply respect your enthusiasm, erudition, and devotion to your beliefs. I certainly hope you feel generally the same about me.

I was taught about the power of what we say and how we say it in 7th grade, and the message stuck, through years as a speech therapist and semipublic pain in the neck.

There are many writers here that could not identify “subjective” from “objective” comments or “facts” from “nonfacts” to save their lives, and that is what makes the General’s comments so refreshing. Of course once we begin to think carefully about expressing ourselves, we realize that “respect” itself can be difficult to define.

Have a GOOD DAY!

Thank you...and I agree.

When I originally wrote the post of ‘disrespect of the person’,

the ‘person’ I was referring to was a famous celebrity ‘of one name’

the Internet loves to hate...for absolutely no Earthly reason.

There are a ton of those celebrities. People get ugly talking about them

on all sorts of social media...our Forum being a teeny-tiny cross-section

of that attitude.

The words I read on this forum when a certain popular person

is mention is beyond disrespect for said person. What the poster

doesn't realize, those words are a direct reflection of themselves.

@violann You’re right. ‘Respect’ itself can be difficult to define.

But if having intelligent, thoughtful conversation, even uncomfortable

words can be read with objection & understanding. But ‘one name

celebrities bring out the shock-jocks & intelligent convo is out the door.

Maybe I shouldn’t care so much for a total stranger (celebrity) but the

’trickle down’ effect affects us all....especially in this micro-mini bubble

of our Forums. Didn’t used to be that way. I miss those days.

But I have hope!

You, too, have a GOOD DAY!

Agreed. Important ideas need to be repeated now and then so people don't forget.
