Maybe they thought she was passed out from drinking?

In any event, it's coming to light that this may not even be true. They've had the full tape the entire time and chose to ignore it.

I haven't followed this all along . . . but that is what I recall the reporting was in the first day it was shown on the news that she was passed out from drinking . . . maybe they reported more afterwards with new details but I don't remember hearing any/much about it until recently.

I don't know if she has abused woman syndrom or not but the fact that he was getting a big payday might have something to do with it.

I don't care what or when or how a man should NEVER EVER EVER punch a woman in the face or anywhere else!

No one...no matter what gender...should NEVER EVER EVER another gender. It's not relegated to just men to women. Everyone is responsible,

Re: UPDATE: a certain football player conversation

The lawyers on CNN said this woman was let down on so many levels. They said when questioned, Ray Rice was in the room with her. In cases of domestic violence, the woman does not need to press charges especially with the first video of him dragging her out of the elevator and for these prosecutors to offer him the same sweetheart deal that juveniles get "basically, be good and stay out of trouble and it'll be struck from his record" is outrageous.

Lets face it, Ray Rice was only released (even after the video release) due to the already public outrage from the 2 game punishment - and the potential loss of revenue to the NFL, period. IMO Harbaugh's press conference more or less reinforced that - when asked why it took now, only after seeing the video that day, were they just NOW taking action, he did not want to go into that. Any hard question he said he would not go into. Just read the CFL has said they will honor the NFLs suspension and not allow Rice to join any team there. The more disturbing thing was listening to pundits - half said they believe the NFL will allow his return eventually using the "everyone deserves a second chance and he's been to rehabilitation and anger management" to allow him back and others said they truly believe that if the NFL allows him back ever the backlash would be devastating. May the second viewpoint prevail.

If you've never seen it, you must watch "What's Love Got to do With it? Tina Turner wrote the book, Angela Bassett played Tina in the movie, and Laurence Fishburne played Ike Turner. The movie is very graphic and hard to watch, but they both got Oscar noms for it.

It shows a lot of why women stay. Fortunately, Tina got up the nerve to leave and became a huge star on her own. It's well worth watching.

It was on, I believe BET just this weekend, ford.

You're right. It is hard to watch, but for those who can't imagine why a woman stays in an abusive relationship, a must-see.

For those of us who were in and got ourselves out of an abusive situation, it dredges up all kinds of bad memories.

To those who cannot fathom why a woman stays, pay attention to those of us who do know. We lived it and got ourselves out of it. Listen and learn.

That gave me chills, mstyrion. I'm glad they're showing in on TV. I own the movie, and watch it every few months, because it shows how a woman, no matter how beaten down, can save herself. And, of course, I LOVE the ending.

ITA mstyrion. And it not only effects the woman but also the kids if any are involved. My DD who was from my first marriage still is protective of me and sometimes wonders if this person will ever try again to hurt me. And believe me not everyone who does marry someone who is abusive is not aware. I wasn't he looked good on paper so to say. I had been a single parent for 10 yrs before I remarried and was financially capable of taking care of myself and my DD. Our marriage lasted 8 months before he started to become abusive. His family and fellow cops even hid it from me. But the day I found out that his ex wife who did not live near us had filed for a restraining order things began to get ugly. Luckily my family lived near and I sent my dd to live with my Mom making the excuse she missed her friends and I secretly began planning my move. Unfortunately it did not go as planned and he found out.

Caravaggio,

I was also the financially solid one in my relationship. I also planned how to remove him from my life for awhile before I put the plan into action. It took some time and I was stalked for awhile but with the support of friends, it worked.

Getting that putz out of my life is one of my most triumphant moments
