Re: Twitter explodes as Calvin Klein says THIS is ‘plus size’

Plus size to me for a woman is 300 lbs plus for 5'4"" and over. And at least 200 lbs for under 5""4"". 350 lbs and over is morbid obesity at the very least. The human body can only carry so much weight and stay healthy. I consider that Calvin Klein model about 130-140 lbs which is about average. I don't consider trim for a model though. I'm skinny at 110 lbs on a 5'4"" frame. I might be a tad big for a hollywood thin. A hollywood actress would be 105lbs on a 5'4"" frame.

Calvin Klein has always hated women larger than a size two.

Idiot.

I think he hates women, period.

All of his ads seem to use only prebubescent models.

The "plus size" model is beautiful but of course she's not actually a plus size. She only a plus size in the demented high fashion world.

If you google her name a lot of photos pop up. In the modeling world she is a plus size because she has more of a pear shape. Calvin Klein has always used thinner models so at least he is finally introducing someone different.

Yikes....don't Google Image 'Myla Dalbesio'...NSFW. When you deal with larger sizes, you tend to have more T/A...and making it harder to do any sort of runway & fit to show off the clothing. They eventually find their niche via pinup/plus size print/fetish modeling, but any sort of movement modeling? Not likely...unless it's a 'edge' designer like Gauliter or Westwood.

She's done some pretty racy photo shoots.

And she's not a pear shape, she's just an old fashioned hourglass. But definitely not a coathanger.

Love the photo of her that makes up her entire torso (yes, nude) as a face.

170 pounds is morbidly obese for a woman 5'4"".

I know a woman who is 5'5" and 165 pounds (so, close to your example) and she is nowhere NEAR being morbidly obese. Fat, yes. Morbidly obese? No, not even close.

175 (I stand corrected) is rated as a 30% BMI - Obese - for a woman 5'4".

Re: Twitter explodes as Calvin Klein says THIS is ‘plus size’

Using the BMI, I am considered morbidly obese - although I don't think I look anywhere near that big (lol). But I am so short (5'2"), that any amount of extra weight calculates at a higher percentage for me than someone who is of average height.

Re: Twitter explodes as Calvin Klein says THIS is ‘plus size’

In a world where fashion designers design "women's clothing" that is actually made to fit the body of an 8-year-old little boy, yes, this woman is plus-sized. In the real world, where I reside, she is a very slender, well-proportioned young woman. This is the reason I do not get worked up about designers and their screwed up misperceptions of the bodies of grown women.
