Your thoughts can be your worst enemy if you let them run away with you.
Lord, free me to enjoy each moment of my day no matter what circumstances
surround me.

Scripture for the day:

"Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually."
~Psalm 105:4

Meditation for the day:

Not only can we live a new life, but we can also grow in grace and
power and beauty. We can reach ever forward and upward after the
things of the spirit. In the animal world, the very form of an animal
changes to enable it to reach that upon which it delights to feed.
our whole character changes as we reach upward for the things of the
spirit--for beauty, for love, for honesty, for purity, and for
unselfishness. Reaching after these things of the spirit, our whole
nature can become changed so that we can best receive and delight in
the wonders of the abundant life.

Prayer for the day:
I pray that I may reach forward and upward. I pray that my character
may be changed by this reaching upward for the things of the spirit.

Hello my friends! Today my brother-in-law, Ron, got home from the
hospital - he did have a stroke!! He's all better now, and they got it just
in time to get rid of it. He's going to be taking a low dosage of cumoudin
(sp) and that's about it. Linus had a long visit with him on the phone
tonight, and he visited him at the hospital this morning, too. He was
falling asleep more often in his recliner, his wife said, and this time they
were out to eat with two other couples, and they picked them up, and Ron
greeted them all, then he passed out, got to the restaurant, and he was
wobbly - couldn't see the menu - his arm dropped, they quickly got him to
the hospital, and he got a shot that takes care of strokes and blood clots,
it's called a blood thinner shot, and right away he was better then, they
kept him in overnight with more tests. And the blessing is all of this is
that 1st, he could have been asleep in his recliner, passed out, and his
wife wouldn't have known it, thinking he's just napping, and then it could
have been too late - could have been paralized or dead. The way it happened
was a blessing. God was surely watching out for him. Instead of eating at
that restaurant they all ate at the Hospital Cafeteria. Another blessing
tonight - Lori was here for supper, that's always a blessing for us, and
then she took us to the dog training - the boys (Ollie and Sam) did well.
Praying for all of you for your intentions and your loved ones, and thanks
for praying for us.

MOVE CLOSER

Not long ago I heard a story about a young man and an old preacher.

The young man had lost his job and didn't know which way to turn. So
he went to see the old preacher.

Pacing about the preacher's study, the young man ranted about his
problem. Finally he clenched his fist and shouted, "I've begged God to
say something to help me, preacher, why doesn't God answer?"

The old preacher, who sat across the room, spoke something in reply,
something so hushed it was undistinguishable. The young man stepped
across the room. "What did you say?" he asked. The preacher repeated
himself, but again in a tone as soft as a whisper. So the young man
moved closer until he was leaning on the preacher's chair.

"Sorry," he said. "I still didn't hear you." With their heads bent
together, the old preacher spoke once more. "God sometimes whispers,"
he said, "So we will move closer to hear him." This time the young man
heard and he
understood.

We all want God's voice to thunder through the air with the answer to
our problem. But God's is the still, small voice... the gentle
whisper. Perhaps there's a reason.

Nothing draws human focus quite like a whisper. God's whisper means I
must stop my ranting and move close to Him, until my head is bent
together with His. And then, as I listen, I will find my answer.
Better still, I find myself closer to God.

JUST FIVE MORE MINUTES

While at the park one day, a woman sat down next to a man on a bench near a
playground. "That's my son over there," she said, pointing to a little boy
in a red sweater who was gliding down the slide.

"He's a fine looking boy" the man said. "That's my daughter on the bike in
the white dress." Then, looking at his watch, he called to his daughter.

"What do you say we go, Melissa?"

Melissa pleaded, "Just five more minutes, Dad. Please? Just five more
minutes."

The man nodded and Melissa continued to ride her bike to her heart's
content.

Minutes passed and the father stood and called again to his daughter. "Time
to go now?"

Again Melissa pleaded, "Five more minutes, Dad. Just five more minutes."

The man smiled and said, "O.K."

"My, you certainly are a patient father," the woman responded.

The man smiled and then said, "Her older brother Tommy was killed by a drunk
driver last year while he was riding his bike near here. I never spent much
time with Tommy and now I'd give anything for just five more minutes with
him. I've vowed not to make the same mistake with Melissa. She thinks she
has five more minutes to ride her bike. The truth is, I get Five more
minutes to watch her play."

Life is all about making priorities, what are your priorities?

THE POWER OF GOD

Have you ever been down and out and nobody seems to be around for you to
talk to...THAT'S GOD...he wants you to talk to him.

Have you ever been just sitting there and all of a sudden you feel like
doing something nice for someone you care for...THAT'S GOD...he talks to you
through the Holy Spirit.

Have you ever been thinking about somebody that you haven't seen in a long
time and then next thing you know you see them or receive a phone call from
them...THAT'S GOD...there is no such thing as "coincidence."

Have you ever received something wonderful that you didn't even ask for,
like money in the mail, a debt that had mysteriously been cleared, or a
coupon to a department store where you had just seen something you wanted,
but couldn't afford...THAT'S GOD...he knows the desires of your heart...

Have you ever been in a situation and you had no clue how it is going to get
better, but now you look back on it...THAT'S GOD... he passes us through
tribulation to see a brighter day...

In the Midst

The river was singing a bit louder this morning due to some badly needed
rain overnight. It had been so dry, practically a drought, and the river was
much lower than normal.

The water was bubbling and meandering anyway. In the midst of the river’s
activity there was a tiny, still pool. Often trout that are resting can be
seen there.

Right now may be in a very busy place for you and your life. Sometimes ‘busy’
comes in spurts. Or maybe you are overwhelmingly busy all the time. Perhaps
your life is not that busy. No matter which bill fits your ‘busy’, we all
need a place to regroup and recoup.

Interruptions can fuel the business, distracting us and causing backtracking
and having to start over. Since I’ve been at the computer writing this I’ve
had a few of those. The phone’s rung about four times, and several texts
have come in all of which were important to take. A saying came to mind
about how your life isn’t disrupted by interruptions; the interruptions are
your life.

So, most of us are just plain busy. Age doesn’t preclude busyness, either;
young, middle, or old – doesn’t seem to matter. And it is essential that we
refuel.

In the midst of busy, if we take an hour…. or take a few moments…. and look
to the Lord with gratitude in our hearts, we can go to a still place where
we can be momentarily be restored and refreshed. Psalm 23 tells us clearly
that God, our good shepherd, leads us to still waters AND restores our soul.

That’s good news.

Be still, and know that I am God Psalm 46:19
