@Catch71 Bergen County here.  I've registered online at NJ.gov & the County, local hospitals, shop rite, Acme and my large medical group.  No vaccine in sight yet.  I don't know why the Gov opened up groups & mega sites but no vaccine?  As much as I'd like to see schools open, to vaccinate teachers first before high risk isn't too helpful.  Children can't get the vaccine.  A person who gets the vaccine is protected  but can carry covid to children.   I understand the newer strains are affecting younger people.

I don't think we should have to choose.  Manufacture enough vaccine in the first place before it's released.  I knew this would happen.  I will wait, observe precautions and will not drive 1.5 hrs away to get a vaccine which I might not get once I'm there anyway.  People are acting crazy....life isn't going to change until fall.  If I get my first, I'd like to have confidence the second dose is there.  I'd also like the J&J vaccine which is one injection and they claim 100% efficacy.

@Stray

“They” got caught in their own lies. It appears there never was any vaccine being “held back.” The decision to release what doesn’t exist really messes with plans to use said non-existing vaccine.

BTW, there is only one strain; there are multiple variants because that are the result of mutation. Almost every time the word “strain” is used on the news, it is in error.

Life won’t change for the better by fall. Give it a year or three. If at all. Things are going to continue to get worse for a while.

@willdob3 I realize life won't change right now but I remain optimistic that by fall I will be able to move more freely than I do now.  That is all I ask.  I have lived thru many outbreaks in my time and was a nurse among other things for 50 years.  We never thought polio or TB would be controlled but it is.  I do have some faith in research and medical practices.  What I've never seen was the politicizing of a disease to this extent and that is almost as deadly as the disease itself.  It is the people that suffer.

You are correct re my improper usage of "strain" vs variant & mutation.  I did revert to media descriptive rather than scientific usage.

Come on! We can do better than this! We can't change a lot of what's happening, but we can decide to soldier on and look on the bright side wherever possible. Gray skies are going to clear up . . .

I’m being realistically optimistic, not blindly unrealistic.

I think it will take a real miracle to see things so improved by fall. There isn’t even any vaccine in reserve right now (then again that is just what we are being told today; who knows what they will say tomorrow?) and experts have said it will take weeks, maybe months to get more manufactured. Then it needs to be distributed and given to people. That is unlikely to be accomplished by fall.

And all the people must wear masks, etc for at least another year according to health experts.

And, according to health experts, this is just our “training pandemic.” They expect more of them will follow.

Actually, J&J is claiming 90% efficacy, but that's still pretty good.

Re: Trying to find the Covid vaccine

I thought one article quoted 100% for J&J but I really haven’t heard or read much beyond that. It’s really the one injection and easy storage that attracted me. The easier the distribution and storage the better and one injection wider production, hopefully. I’ll take 90% but will not accept 50%.

Glad I called Kaiser on Friday and am at least in line there.

Tried to access the County website this morning and it - and the phone lines - are completely shut down.  They said they are overwhelmed.

Wonderful.  So now those 75+ who didn't register last week - are out of luck as well.

I simply don't understand the point of opening it up to 65+ and 16+ with health conditions  when they also said it will take weeks - maybe months to get through the 75+ group.

And then they are also saying it's first come first served as to the "line" once you register.  So what happened to priority for the 75+ folks.  I guess they had their chance last week.  Missed it?  So sad.

Re: Trying to find the Covid vaccine

It is very frustrating. It was announced today that additional sites opened in NJ and the links were published. So I thought I’d try again. One link asks “are you a health care worker, first line responder or over 65”. I affirm “yes”. I get to the registration page and it states we are vaccinating only health care workers and front line responders at this time......so why did you invite me? The thing that still irks me is that politicians got theirs....oK for elder states people or high risk but not the young. The congress and Senate have been useless for years. I really don’t care about continuity in government. Recently, an 86 yr old man jumped to his death from his balcony in my area. Could it be isolation? There is a death toll during this pandemic in addition to the virus.

Re: Trying to find the Covid vaccine

I remain optimistic in spite of everything. I don’t think life will be “normal” by fall but I hope I have more freedom so that I can see family, travel or dine out. The mask and social distancing does not impose any great discomfort or annoyance to me. We have a new baby coming in May and my niece’s son just got engaged. I hope they can marry in 2022. I hope I can be part of these joyful events.

Re: Trying to find the Covid vaccine

I'm on the verge of losing my you know what over all of this and I'm not even in an age of being close to getting the vaccine.  But this is the most ridiculous and inept roll-out I have ever seen.  I am so sick of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.  We are being told lies and half-truths at every turn.  They say one thing one week and the following week it's all different.

I still cannot believe that we as a country, cannot do better than this with the vaccines.  I feel so sorry for the elderly people waiting in line only to be turned away.  Waiting in line for hours, some sleeping overnight in parking lots, waiting in inclement weather, making appointments only to find out they were double booked and on and on.  It is unacceptable.
