I am a rural Georgia resident.
I called our health department and put on the list for an appointment time.
They called me back a little over a week later with an appointment date and time.
In less than two weeks from my initial call, my husband and I had an appointment time and had received our vaccinations.
From the time we got to the health department for our shot, until the time we left took 35 minutes, and that includes the 15 minute wait time after the shot.
I'm sorry you are having such difficulty in your county, but in general, most of Georgia is moving right along pretty efficiently. We are luckier than most.
Could you try a different county?
@Georgiagrama -actually, Georgia is ranked 49 out of 50 in terms of vaccine rollout. Only Alabama lags behind us. Not good.
I got mine last Thursday but it was online booking only through the County Health Dept. website which crashed the second they opened it up. I happened to try again, just by dumb luck, when they brought it back up 14 hours laters. It crashed again this past Friday at 5 PM when they loaded next weeks appts in there. You could not book them by phone.
I had tried 8-10 independent pharmacies prior to that, with no luck. CVS is supposed to be a big player in this, but they have no information yet.
A friend of mine got her shot the day before I did at the same place. She was told that for the second shot, she'd have to scrounge around to find the second dose. When I went the next day they told me they changed the procedure overnight the night before and that they WILL contact us and give us a appt for the second shot. She had no idea as to whether they'd contact us by phone or email....or when. It's a little nerve wracking.
I feel very fortunate to have gotten the first dose. I won't relax till the county (Cobb...huge county) figures out how to notify us for the second. It really shouldn't be this difficult,
'Fortunately, Publix and Kroger started offering limited appts. As of a few days ago. They automatically schedule your second appt when you book your first. What an ingenious idea.
The metro Atlanta counties are really struggling with this. Even the procedure isn't smooth. And can I call my health dept and ask "so, just exactly how are you going to notify us for the second shot"? Sure, I could try, but you can't get through on the phone.
Again, we rank 49 out 0.
@gidgetgh I'm not sure why our particular county is having such success with the vaccine. We were also scheduled for our second vaccination before we left. They gave us the date to return and just told to use our same appointment time.
In fact, all the medical personnel in our county and neighboring counties have already received their vaccination.
Thankfully, there has been no shortage for anyone.
I'm not sure what is going on in the larger counties, but thankfully, we don't have the shortage or confusion as some are apparently having.

Just found out DH will receive a bonus when he can show proof of his second vaccination! I think that's a great idea to increase compliance among uncommitted people.

My state is a mess. By the time they get the information out the vaccine is gone. Supposed to be a new supply tomorrow after we sign up online maybe or on the phone maybe. Thiinking of waiting. I am more scared and concerned about the health dept than getting the vaccine. Incompetitent is a nice word... I wonder if it might be used in this case.

our Govener In the state of Washington just spoke and said those 65 can now get the vaccine. I imagine it will be a crazy mess for many weeks. I will just wait until things calm down and they figure out what they are doing.

It will probably work on people who are thinking they are probably going to get it sometime anyway.
Not everyone is avoiding the vaccine because they are just wishy washy and want to see how others fare first.

The rollout in our state has been confusing. Frist it was front line workers, rest home people and people over 75, then they changed it to include over 65. There's limited vaccine and they made it even more difficult when the included the over 65 group. The phone lines and computer links are jamming up making it even more difficult. Some poor women in her late 80's was on hold for 6 hours trying to make an appointment when she got cut off. The 3-4 week time between shots is even going to make it more difficult for people who haven't gotten their first shot, to get it. I'm not in a panic to get my shot, I'm 66 but I don't want to go nuts trying to make an appointment either. I don't think any of us do.

suzyQ3, I am in Northern California, also with Kaiser. I am 72, multiple health conditions (diabetes, hep B). According to the website yesterday, we must wait for them to contact us when they are ready to schedule. Only health care workers are being scheduled now.
Very unhappy, will be checking with San Mateo County to see if they can offer any hope sooner. Sucks for everyone, but not blaming Kaiser. Sick to death of being housebound since March. What a mess, but things will start to get better in just a few HOURS now!
I have Kaiser and have just been added to the 1b group in our state (65+ and 16+ with medical conditions). My husband - 75+ - got the shot from Kaiser last week, but they are still working on the 75+ group so I don't know when I will get mine.
Their website encourages people to also register with the County - and I was finally able to do that - so I will take whatever is available first.
