True crime is one of my favorite genres. I find it fascinating to read and try to understand how someone could do very terrible things. Hopefully I'm not alone and we can share our favorites true crime books and authors.
As Sunny would say- please bold or underline the book if possible, so it's easier to find the titles when scrolling.
My favorite true crime book is called Defending Gary- Unraveling the Mind of the Green River Killer by Mark Prothero and Carlton Smith. It is about the Gary Ridgeway, America's most prolific serial killer, co-written by his defense attorney.
I was not expecting to like this book, because my husband is a career prosecutor and I expected it to be adversarial toward prosecutors. I was very wrong, and am SO glad I read it. It was the best book I've read on Ridgeway, I learned so much about him and what fueled his need to kill. The book was very well written, it was sad, shocking, interesting, and at times, funny. I know that sounds odd given the subject matter, but it was.
Would you please share some of your favorite true crime authors and books?
Thanks everyone, I'm looking forward to adding to my ever growing book wish list!
