Travel Agents

I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I have no idea how they make their money. Is it from a percentage of the money customers pay when booking? Or is from a cut from motels, etc? I've been pricing trips online with various sites and I'm working with an agent as well...but the agent is nearly the same price.

I'll admit I'm ignorant on the subject, but that's how one learns by asking
