I'm in NW Indiana, we DO get nasty weather now and then, NEVER any tornados, BUT it's not out of the question.

In the past, I've lived with a basement, and felt fairly safe. My current home is on a slab, fine by me - I DON't miss the worrying about the sump pump breaking, or the electric going off, and having my basement flood. I DO wonder about it though, when the spring and summer comes along with storms.

I've decided to take shelter in my walk-in bedroom closet. It's interior, though just off my bedroom that has 2 1/2 walls to the outside. (My bedroom juts off the back of the house). I suppose I could go in the laundry room, it's interior, and more roomy, but just off the garage, which is 3 walls exposed. But, beyond wondering where I should go, I've always thought about putting my 3 cats in their carriers in the room/closet with me. After seeing so much of the OK storm, I'm now torn. Do I use soft sided carriers, with straps, wrapped around my body, or hard shell carriers? OR, do I let them loose with me - so many animals crawl out from the wreckage. If they get tossed while trapped in a carrier, what then? Horrible thoughts to have to even consider, but the more I see of such things, the more I wonder - what is the best thing to do with your pets, specifically cats?
