Last Christmas I was given a gorgeous blue orchid plant. I love orchids and have several, but had never seen one like this one.

Today, after being in bud for over a month, the first of many buds opened - it's white!

I looked it up and it turns out it was apparently dyed blue. Lots of stores have been selling the dyed blue orchids.

Oh well, I still love it.

I have eight, and while they are all growing new roots and new leaves, only two have rebloomed - a purple one and this one.

I put them outside for the summer - they love the heat and humidity - and just before I brought them in, I saw a shoot with a bud on one of my others. The next day, it was gone and there was a big fat caterpillar busily munching on the remainder of the stem.

I didn't kill him, but I was very tempted.

In the summer, do you put them in a shady area on a deck or porch or part sun, full sun?

I think I'd have to keep them inside IF I had any, until the June Bug season was over, they love eating the leaves on all my flowers in containers and in the flower beds.

I actually have Floral Spray . . . like spray paint cans . . . that I used to spray a white Christmas tree light purple/lavender and another a pale pink . . . for Easter/Spring trees with my Hallmark ornaments. I think I also have a couple of cans of Robins Egg Blue . . . bet that might be what they used.

I put them in a shady spot on the deck - they get some filtered sun and they seem to like that.
