@SportyShorty07   How wonderful that you are working on your book illustrations. I'm sure that it will be beautiful. Will your characters be people or animals? This is the perfect time of year to paint plants. Will your subjects be outdoor or indoor plants? Most of my paintings have been landscapes. I only did one floral oil painting, back in the 70's. It was flowers in shades of yellow, orange and rust, in a copper pot. I had it on

the wall in my orange and Harvest Gold kitchen.

in my first house.

One winter, being stuck in the house with all the children, I was feeling a little depressed, with everything so gray and bleak outside. I decided to change the kitchen paint from Harvest Gold to orange. I went to the paint store and painted three doors, the wood trim on three windows and cabinets orange. I didn't tell my husband that I was doing it.

It sure brightened things up. When my husband came home from work and came through the kitchen door, I said "Put on your sunglasses".

It sounds like we have similar tastes in our affinity for

sweets. I like the Jordan Almonds, but I can't eat them every day or too many at a time. They are high in oxalates which I have to avoid since I have been having problems with kidney stones for more than ten years. They are very painful and I had to have lithotripsy twice and that isn't fun.

There are a lot of foods that I have to be careful with, in

addition to dringing lots of water. Most mornings  I drink warm lemon water which helps to prevent more kidney stones from forming. Chocolate also has oxalates so I can't overdo that either.  Fun stuff!

@Enufstuff  Thank you for your kind words and your lovely posts, Enuffstuff 🤗!  I'm going to illustrate animals for the childrens book- I think I'm going to illustrate birds or turtles. Maybe even squirrels! I love squirrels. I think I'll start with painting indoor plants again and then I'll paint outdoor plants at my city's botanical garden. I bet your landscape and still life plant paintings are gorgeous, Enuffstuff! Your 1970's color scheme for your floral oil painting and orange and harvest gold kitchen sounds absolutely fabulous and groovy!!

I love the color palette of the 70's- camel tan, avocado green, orange, harvest gold, rust and more.  I have a Waring Futura 14 speed blender that is my most prized kitchen appliance- it is Avocado green, has a tall glass blending vessel, wood paneling, chrome hardware and ivory buttons with a plastic Avocado green lid. I make all of my workout protein shakes in it. Your repainting your kitchen in the 70's was such a creative and fun way to beat the dreary winter rainy blues! I laughed and smiled when I read, "Put on your sunglasses" when you presented the kitchen to your husband  😎😄.

We do love our sweets!  I also make an effort to eat them in moderation too- but its hard to resist the candy though.  I'm so sorry to hear that you have had reoccurring issues with kidney stones and a sensitivity to oxalates. You're a resilient and brave lady to go through with your lithotripsy procedure twice a year.

Toni looks lovely! I know that you make all her dresses, but where do you get her accessories, namely her shoes and socks?

@Buffalogal47  Thank you very much. I have 15 Toni dolls and some came with shoes and socks.

The other shoes and socks, I purchased from ebay, Etsy and

online websites for doll accessories. Most were purchased more than ten years ago, when I was sewing Toni doll dresses and selling them online.

@SportyShorty07  Your book will be adorable with all the woodland animals. We love squirrels too, they are so cute. For many years, we have been feeding them along with the birds. They live in our pine trees and our oak trees.

We get bird seed mix and suet for the birds and peanuts for the squirrels. We were feeding them peanuts in the shells, but the shells made such a mess in the yard, they don't decompose.

So now they get shelled peanuts. The bluejays and cardinals like the peanuts too. I feed them every morning and they are fun to watch. All our cats loved watching their bird a squirrel show every morning.

Years ago, in early spring, while I was at work, my husband wanted to get some fresh air into the house. The screen door was not installed yet, it was just the glass storm door. So he propped it open and went into the kitchen to do something, after he had fed the birds and squirrels outside.

When he came back into the living room, there sitting on the arm of the sofa, was a little squirrel sitting there eating a peanut.

He called to the squirrel, "What are you doing?" Fortunately, the squirrel ran out the door and not into the house. They can do a lot of damage, trying to find a way out.

He knew that I would freak out that a squirrel got inside, so he didn't tell me about the incident until a week later. It was funny and what a cute picture that would have been with a squirrel sitting on the sofa, eating a peanut.

Your Waring blender is a treasure. I still have my old Hamilton Beach blender in cream and brown. I mostly used it to make babyfood, back in the 70's . Occasionally, I would make a frappe, as we call it on the east coast. I think everyplace else, they call them shakes. (Ice cream, milk and chocolate syrup, sometimes coffee syrup) Here, a milk shake is just milk and syrup mixed in a blender.

Avocado green was such a classic 60's and 70's color. The only Avocado green I had was a shag rug in the TV room. TV room furniture was brown leather and I crocheted a large throw for the sofa. I made it in that zigzag pattern and the bands of color were orange, gold and avocado.

My color of choice was Harvest Gold. I had  white and gold living room furniture and drapes with a gold shag rug.

In the kitchen, all the appliances were Harvest Gold. Appliances now, are all changed to white and the only thing left in my kitchen, from that era is the Harvest Gold kitchen sink. I think of changing it to a white sink, but I don't know if that can be done without damaging the white counter top. Then if I have to get a new countertop, I don't know if that can be done without damaging the cabinets underneath. So, I have not attempted to change the gold sink. It is still functional.

        Such a first world problem!

It will be a lot of fun to illustrate my book about woodland creatures. Squirrels are so cute- I love their fluffy tails and their little ears. Your birds and squirrels are living the dream with your bird seed mix, suet and shelled peanuts 🤗. Your dear cats must've loved the squirrels- there's so much to see with how quickly squirrels jump from one spot to the next.  I think the squirrels probably loved watching your cats too.

I laughed out loud and smiled when I read your story about the little squirrel sneaking into your home through the storm door and sitting on the couch while snacking on a peanut like he owned the place 🤣💗!  That would've been an absolutely adorable photo of the snacking squirrel on the arm of your sofa. So cute!!! Someone should do a photo series of squirrels sitting on furniture.

Your Hamilton Beach blender can do it all! I love how powerful the blenders from the 70's were- and they were made in such fun colors. Your avocado shag rug, crocheted couch cover and your white furniture sound fabulous! Your love for Harvest Gold is great too- such a classic color, definitely keep the harvest gold sink! Changing that special color will create a headache of surrounding remodels. Also, I love Harvest Gold, so I'd say that its good to go for the gold and hold onto a classic color.

I hope you're having a great week so far!
