Today's important question- yogurt

So, I'm not a huge Yogurt fan. I like Yoplait Light (Red Velvet Cake flavor) and a few other flavors and that's it. I haven't really branched out any.

I was with a friend today and she told me that she loves Dannon Lite Greek Yogurt. I was at the grocery store this afternoon stocking up on my Red Velvet Cake Yogurt so I bought one Dannon Lite Greek Yogurt.

Again, I'm not a huge yogurt person, but what exactly is Greek yogurt? For years and years, there was just yogurt and now Greek yogurt is everywhere. What's the difference?

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Re: Today's important question- yogurt

Greek yogurt has a lot of the liquid removed from it and it is thicker in constitution than the other yogurts. At least that is what I read about it.

Re: Today's important question- yogurt

Greek yogurt is strained to remove the whey, so the consistency is thicker. That's all I know. Although I think Greek yogurt has more protein, too. I could be wrong on that.

I prefer Greek yogurt; but with any flavored yogurts watch out for sugar content.

It has a different texture....less sugar/carbs...and more protein.

Re: Today's important question- yogurt

Greek yogurt is much superior to US artificially sweetened yogurt. The way it is processed removed more of the water.

During summer, when the summer fruits are available, may be a good time to try it. It is so much better than what we are used to in the US.

Re: Today's important question- yogurt

I believe Fage sued Chobani for using the term "Greek" yogurt and not "Greek-style" since Chobani does not make their yogurt in Greece.

If it's not made in Greece, is it still Greek?{#emotions_dlg.confused1}

Anyway, Fage Greek yogurt with fresh fruit is delicious.
