@lil sophie He definitely walked the talk on this. Many examples given from people who "were there" today. 😞I'm so sad.

Re: Tobey Keith

[ Edited ]

I don't think I've ever heard Toby Keith sing, although of course have heard OF him.  ( Later--Edited to correct my spelling of his name.)  Unfortunately, I kept confusing him with another country super star who is married to a female country star.

But today I read a quote from Raheem Kassam,  a British writer, that was so sweet and shows how good music travels the globe--

Kassam ran into Toby Keith once, and got a chance to tell him how much he liked him.  He told him of his favorite lyrics that Toby Keith had written--

The line was:

“There was a time you told me you’d love me forever, but baby didn’t forever get here fast?” from 'Just Another Sundown'.

Kassam said--  "He was very amused that a guy from West London was quoting an album track. He laughed and threw his arms around me and gave me a huge bear hug. The dude was massive. Anyway. I sure wish Toby Keith had been with us forever. But baby, didn’t forever get here fast?"

Just thought that was very dear.   RIP.

"Red Solo Cup" was certainly a fun song. But I love "Don't Let the Old Man In." When he sang this last year at one of the award shows, I don't think there was a dry eye in the audience.

He recorded it about 5 or 6 years ago, and credited Clint Eastwood as inspiring it and, in fact, Eastwood used it in one of his movies. After a round of golf, Keith asked Eastwood what kept him going (probably implying, still being active at his advanced age). Eastwood responded, "I don't let the old man in." It's a great song, even more meaningful when Toby Keith sang it after his diagnosis.

R.I.P.

I am not familiar with his music bu I have heard of him.   So sorry to hear that he passed.  My best friend also passed away from stomach cancer but she was gone within a month.

RIP

Rest In Peace, Toby Keith Covey, 7-8-1961 to 2-5-2024. Heaven will be graced by the presence of this patriot!

A beautiful light baritone voice; I loved esp. his early hit  "Should've been a Cowboy."

May he rest in peace, and may his family find peace.

Don't think they let me put a link here, but if any of you are on Instagram, "Countrycast" posted a tribute written by Toby Keith's son to his dad, that was beautiful.
