@queendiva

Bought my KitchenAid toaster in 1997. The thing is still going strong. I wanted a new stainless steel toaster, but so many of the newer toasters are worthless according to reviews on many sites, I'll keep my KitchenAid.

Making sure I wasn't on the bagel setting was the first thing I did.  After a couple failed attempts at making a decent piece of toast I read the instructions front to back to make sure I didn't miss anything, like having to use a certain slot, etc.  (I had a toaster once that you had to use just one side. )  I felt kind of stupid...I'm 72 years old and been making toast since I was 6.  Thought I knew how to use a toaster!  Smiley Very Happy

Anyway, I finally looked inside the toaster as it was toasting, and saw just one or two wires turning red on one side.  And therein lies the problem.  I understand getting a lemon once in awhile but that seems to be a design problem if it happens twice.

Cuisinart by the way.

Like all the "older" appliances, it just keeps working and working.

I have a General Electric hand held mixer I still use almost daily.  It's avacado green.  I don't have to tell anyone when that was bought!

I have a Cuisinart 4 slice toaster from BJ's bought several years ago. The two outside slots toast both sides of the bread but the two inside slots only toast one side.

Now I'm thinking I must be weird that I toast my bagels on both sides. Have I been doing it wrong my whole life? Woman Surprised

I've never toasted bagels. I think it changes the taste of them and not for the better imo.

Re: Toaster dilemma

Okay, this is kind of a silly question, but here goes.  I bought a toaster on line, a major brand, fairly expensive (don't want to mention brand) because I'm tired of cheap toasters I have to replace all the time.  It took forever to be shipped, but I was eager to try it out as soon as I got it.  Popped in a piece of bread, waited...it popped up and only one side was toasted.  Smiley Sad I thought okay, maybe it needs to be "broke in" and tried it again.  And again.  Same thing every time.

So I contacted the manufactuer, had to jump through a few hoops but they finally agreed to send me a replacement.  It took a month to get the new one.  When it finally arrived I immediately tried it out.   I wouldn't get a lemon twice, would I??   Yes I would.  Same darn thing.  I had so much trouble getting the replacement I just didn't want to deal with the company again.

So I took my old toaster back out of the cabinet (kept for a back up) and now I have 2 brand new toasters that don't toast worth a *amn.  I don't want to donate or give them to anyone knowing they're defective and for some reason I have a hard time just throwing them in the garbage.  But that's what they are, garbage.  So, any ideas on what to do with these stupid toasters??

(I haven't read every reply, so sorry if anything below is redundant.)

Information missing ....    Why didn't you go back to the seller ..... was it on a retailer like Macys or  someone on Amazon or Ebay?   I'm wondering if the seller could have bought a bunch of factory seconds (or something like that).

Since I just went through the whole buy a new toaster thing, my suggestion is this:   CALL the manufacturer and talk to a human being, and if the Cust Service person isn't helpful, then escalate .... speak to a supervisor.

If it's not on a bagel setting and you have two lemons, PLEASE don't let the manufacturer get away with this.  Tell them to email you shipping labels and you want to send them both back.  Insist on it.   If you want a refund, insist on getting it.   They should give you a new toaster ... free ... for all your trouble.  Probably won't happen, but they should, IMO.

Just even having to deal with two lemons is totally unacceptable.    Give them a hard time ... they deserve it.

And please let us know what happens ....  and maybe re-consider naming the brand name.  Save others here from having to go through the same thing.

Whew!   I feel better having said all that ... hope you do.  LOL  Woman LOL

I agree w/Tinkrbl44,  name the brand. Not a big deal & could be helpful to others. Although I've yet to find a good toaster and have been through many, many:(
