Re: To see or not to see...that is the question....

A law officer will tell you home security is like an onion.......it has layers.......security lights........security cameras......good locks on your doors/windows........home security system.......and a barking dog........there's one more layer, but the people here tend to go a little crazy when it's mentioned....................................raven

I would buy a system that can be synced with your smartphone and then you can check on your property in real time while away.

I'd do hidden cameras.  And a dummy visible camera.  Avoiding/disabling the visible camera, they are caught by the hidden.  Also post a sign.

Re: To see or not to see...that is the question....

Nataliesgramma,

I saw both of these products on QVC, recently.  They look great, and they have good reviews.

I'm thinking about getting the video doorbell intercom system for my front door. I can't hear when someone is at my door unless I'm sitting in the living room.

But for home security, if I lived in a house, in addition to outside cameras I would seriously consider investing in the home security system. (Very reasonably priced)

It's a camera you place inside your home, and if anything moves inside, it sends a signal to your cell phone immediately, so you can see AND hear everything that's going on inside your home, while it's all being recorded.

It also has a very loud, 90 decible alarm that you can activate. The alarm would probably frighten them away, but if not, when the police are notified they'll be happy to escort the burglers out of your home. Smiley Very Happy

Good luck with whatever you choose to buy.

Re: To see or not to see...that is the question....

Our neighbor's son hung a trail camera to watch deer.  Oh he found deer alright & a guy staggering about in their dark backyard about 3:30 one morning.  You don't ever know what's lurking about but we have a 3 story house with motion lights and a dusk to dawn light and the only street light in our neighborhood, which I had placed on our property.  We laugh and say how it looks like a penitenitary when the lights are all on but lights are a deterrent from what I've been told.  We also have ADT security system and have been customers of theirs for over 20yrs.  Hubby called to talk to them about upgading and let me tell ya's they don't cut any old customers any slack.  He said, "No thanks, we'll stick with what we've got."

I caught the meter reader checking out DH's shop with our trailcam....WAY out of his way so just being nosey or casing the joint. He never even noticed the camera. You will be amazed and see things you never knew about with one of these dandy cameras. DH got me mine as a present to watch wildlife and I've sure caught a lot of that...with 4 and 2 legs!

@silkyk, you guys must've been shocked when you saw that guy lurking where had had no business.  My husband keeps threatening to get one but I'm the one fighting it, completely out of fear and what we'll see.  It would freak me out.   So what became of that?

I think I would take the easy way out and just move somewhere I felt safe.
