@Puppy Lips She did just get that one. It is probably only 2 in. long. If she didn't tell anyone they would probably not even notice. At one time I wanted to get a small rose done on my ankle which was injured as a child to hide the "puffiness" that never left. When I thought about all the "sticks" and how permanent it would be, I opted out. I have now had enough "sticks" in my lifetime to last me 1,000 years! Medically
that is!

@JeanLouiseFinch wrote:I currently have two tattoos. One was done many years ago and the other just seven weeks ago. The first was a pretty cross on my ankle but I chose the little space behind my ear for the second because my arm skin isn't as good as it once was, it's thinner, crepey, and looser now. In that little space behind my ear I have a kidney cancer ribbon with a partial heart. Both tattoos are meaningful to me; one because its a symbol of my faith and the second because I'm forever grateful that I am a kidney cancer survivor. Both were done with my DD getting something in a similar theme on the same day. She and her husband have lots of body art and it doesn't affect my opinion of them in the least. In fact when we got our kidney tats hers was sizeable, about 4"x3", or so, on her forearm, and she said she was honored to have it.
I may get one or two more. I'm thinking a small flower or heart behind my other ear and something to honor my dog who we had to say goodbye to recently. I'm trying to settle on the placement for that one.
For the record, I am very strong and unwavering in my religious beliefs, and quite conservative in my political leanings and the way I dress.
The judgments here really make me SMH
@JeanLouiseFinch Yes, I do think, for some, religious beliefs may enter into it. Not for me. If you ever make a study of it there were both pagans and religious people (maybe even some apostles who had them (such as a cross).

Had a realization - depending on where they are and size, tats and piercings are a distraction. Considering that people want and need to be 'seen' for who they are, this doesn't seem to help.
(yes, I know some have a meaning/story but they're still a distraction and reflect a small piece/moment in time that may not even be the most positive)

I would like to have a small tatt on my wrist, but I can't decide the image--and, like DEEP, I am apprehensive about the pain. Couldn't have tattooed myself til I retired, but I am eyeing the idea now that I am retired and have moved to a place where I'm happier. I am thinking of a small flower of some sort.

Good to read that you are happy with your move and retirement, @Burnsite.

I always wondered about a stylized eye on the back of my neck. Probably a good thing that I didn't![]()

@Burnsite So glad to read that you and the kitties have retired to your beloved New England. Living in a place where you are happy and secure is priceless. Hope you can gather your courage for a wrist tattoo someday. Might I suggest staying away from the orange blossom (state flower of Florida). DEEP

@ThinkingOutLoud, my personal POV is just the opposite. Getting tats is a demonstrative statement of who they are, or at least who they were at the time they got them.

I saw my first tattoo on my BF's twin sister when I met her in 1972. She was an artsy type and it was a little red heart on her chest.
I don't like it when they fade out in older age and then look bad. Alot of the ones I've noticed are for one's children or in memory of a person who died. My cousin told his.kids to never get a GF or wife's name tattooed.
I worked with a teacher that got a small one on her ankle when she retired. My stepdaughter wanted to get one as an all around ankle bracelet which was a fad and I talked her out of it as told her she would have to cover it in some work places and she did have an accounting job later and needed to dress up.
I saw one young man in a store this Spring with his whole face and neck tattooed. I wanted to ask..."Didn't that hurt?"
