I applaud you for your tireless efforts and selfless time and duty to help others. Per a poster I called and gave my name to a hospital if they need any help feeding the babies......the lady did not know but the director will have my name and number in the morning. She said she has never seen anyone volunteer due to HIPPA issues but she said you never know. So, we will see.
Again, I think it is wonderful for people who help their friends, and neighbors, churches, temples, hospitals, etc.........You are such a blessing to others. You will never really know all the lives you touch even with a gentle smile.

The term is HIPAA, not HIPPA.

R&R if you are interested in volunteering at a nursing home, you can contact the Activities Director. One year, my DD and myself helped out with Bingo every Sunday afternoon and helped out with their holiday parties.

R&R, I've never heard of volunteers feeding babies, but there many other things you could do. I work in the gift shop 1 day a week. It is something you might enjoy doing.

You know this is one place I just can't go now........my mother went into a nursing home at 47 and died at 57 in the same nursing home....it tore my heart apart and I have not gotten over it.....it was hard to visit such a beautiful woman that was so precious and kind that was ravenaged {sp} by that horrible disease..........since I could not see her as much as I wanted to because of the heartache and crying in front of her I could never go visit someone else after not seeing my mom as much as I should have even though I lived out of town I could have gone more. This is one heartache I will never get over.

I would enjoy working in a gift shop if I can sit and if the cash register is easy.......

I, too, recommended volunteering at a hospital gift shop to R&R in another thread. I thought R&R might enjoy it, since she mentioned how she would love to work at a boutique, and that she was also looking to volunteer. Hope it works out.

The cash register is easy but we are not allowed to sit. The shifts are only 3.5 hours and it goes very quickly as you are always easy either selling or pricing new merchandise. There are 2 of us on each shift.

R&R, You might want to go to the hospital's Volunteer Office, and speak to someone in person, if you don't receive a call back. Hopefully the person you spoke to on the phone will give your phone number and message to the appropriate person, but you'll need to go to the Volunteer Office anyway to fill out an application. Also, I think most hospitals have orientations each volunteer needs to complete before volunteering, so you'll need to speak to someone about that, too. Good luck!

Good idea, Celery. The Volunteer Coordinator will know the rules. I have heard of people volunteering to rock babies, but I don't know if that is even done anymore. Policies change. I sort of think feeding newborns might not be an option for volunteers. R & R, you might want to ask them about doing something in the pediatric unit, not newborns.
