To Whoever Suggested Trader Joe's Scallion Pancakes...

THANK YOU!

I just cooked one for lunch...now I wish I had defrosted 2!

They are delicious.

I wonder what they would "go with" for a dinner?

I haven't tried them, though they sound good. I wonder if you could use them like a crepe & roll up some kind of seafood concoction inside? If you're a vegetarian, maybe a veggie mixture?

Too funny. I obviously missed the thread mentioning them, but saw them this morning at TJ's and bought them.

Will have one tomorrow.

Glad to hear I made a good choice.

They are VERY onion-y. Very well seasoned too - no need for soy sauce or anything else on them.

I browned them on top of the stove to make them crispier. You can microwave them too.

I love scallions so I'm pretty sure I would like these. It's nice to get a recommendation, as I don't generally try new things on my own. I'm going to give these a try on my next trip to TJ's.

terrier - green onion pancakes have been very popular in Chinese restaurants around here for years and years. I wonder if that's where the idea came from? They are usually, but not always, served with a peanut sauce to spread over them.

With that in mind, perhaps they would be good served with Chinese food? Trader Joe's makes a fabulous frozen orange chicken.

Are the pancakes in the frozen section of TJoe's?

Are YOU the person who told me about the Orange Chicken? I have some of that and the chicken fried rice. The chicken is FANTASTIC.

The pancakes are also frozen, but they were near the croissants and other breakfast food. They are VERY flavorful...I didn't add a thing to my pancake.

Re: To Whoever Suggested Trader Joe's Scallion Pancakes...

A little info from the TJoe's site:

Pas jeon, or Scallion Pancakes, native to Korea.

Trader Joe's Scallion Pancakes (Pa jeon) are made exclusively for us in South Korea, and if you happen to be Korean, you'll be reminded of meals from Grandma's kitchen. These are egg-batter-based cakes loaded with scallions, onions, leeks, carrots, and oyster mushrooms. They can be enjoyed as a snack, an appetizer, or even a main course if that's what suits your mood. You can warm them up in the microwave, or, for a crispier texture, thaw them first and then pan-fry them with a little oil 'til they're lightly browned and crisp.

We're selling each 14.1 ounce package of four Scallion Pancakes for $3.49. You'll find them in our freezers.

The photo above does look a lot like the Chinese green onion pancakes.

The pancakes are a very popular appetizer at our favorite Chinese restaurant.

I probably mentioned them, but they're a big hit so others could have suggested them, also Smile

Thanks for mentioning these, I will definitely get them! My daughter makes a great peanut sauce, too, but you can also find it in the Asian section of grocery stores, if you're interested. Of course, they're good without the peanut sauce, too.
