I was looking around at Kohls this afternoon, everything was buy one get 50% off.  But it seemed to me the first item was priced doubly so that 50% didnt mean anything.  Besides that I didn't need two pair of jeans or two bras.  Just getting tired of gimmicks.  Thanks for letting me vent.

I was at Kohls recently and was disappointed to see their new way of pricing. I saw a jacket that I liked but was not about to buy two so they lost a sale.  I also agree with amyb about Peoples.. I thought I was getting a good deal when I had the 30% off until I started buying the same items at Walmart. I realized that Peoples prices were at least 25%  higher. The 30% was not good on sale items.

This has been a pet peeve of mine since way back in the day when I used to buy a lot at 9-West shoe outlet. Please don't make me have to look for a 2nd pair of shoes I don't need!  But lately...I really am tired of CVS, buy 1 get 50% off all through the store. Meanwhile, they send me a coupon to discount my entire purchase, 25-30% off, every week by email, to put onto my loyalty card.  But "sale" items, which all the buy1 get one 50% off qualify as, don't get discounted, so much of what I need doesn't qualify for the coupon and I don't need doubles.

I'm really tired of this gimmick too. I'm going to just start ignoring it all soon and just go buy what I need wherever. The energy spent trying to get the best prices can be time consuming, and way too complicated. Not sure when all is said and done if we really get true discounts on much.

I also worked briefly p/t at an outlet LOFT years ago, and omg...those coupons & discounts (wasn't just LOFT, but all the stores there) were SO complicated, it drove people and us nuts trying to satisfy every angle for the customer as well as coding them all differently in the register!  Just give us a dang sale.

@amyb  OMG, don’t get me going on The Loft...buy 2 sweaters and get 3rd for 25% off, but only on sale merchandise when no further discounts have been taken....ya da ya da ya da!!! 😳

Lol...Yada yada is right! Though my experience goes back 5 years; I don't recall us having that buy 2, get one 25% off. But yes, the "combining of discounts" would drive both customers and salespeople at the register nuts. There were the Loft coupons & promotions, then the outlet had a booklet of discounts people brought in, then they'd ask for their AAA discount, then the outlet center ALSO had coupons in the paper that were not supposed to be combined with certain things. EACH discount had it's own code you had to ring into the register. Sometimes there were ways to ring in certain codes to help people get EVERY discount that, of COURSE, they wanted. OIY!!!! And it was such a busy store, with 6 registers going, and huge lines through the store, so all of this was done at break-neck speed.  I worked with a fun, supportive team of ladies, and I did shop Loft a lot at that time, so I got lots of great discounts, (we'd get promotions for our store meeting it's numbers, of 40% off of our usual 50% discount) and I sometimes miss that, but not that crazy job!  And actually, they do have such great discounts, that you can still do very well as a customer, without employee discounts.  Anyhow, I digress...needless to say....store discounts all have gotten way too complicated! 😳

ps. was in CVS again today, behind this sweet older woman, pulling out a coupon...heard the sales girl tell her "Oh, I'm sorry, you can't use that on this because it's on sale"...I thought....as usual, CVS!

Re: Tired of buy one get one 50%

I've bought tons of clothes from Kohls on-line when they were on sale and then I received Kohls Cash. That was around 2012 to 2015 - and I got great buys on jeans, jean jackets, pants, tops (long and short sleeve); sweaters, pajamas, etc. My closet is now full.

Last month, my roomie moved out and he was so helpful - that I asked what he needed. I went to Kohls dot com and purchased 2 pairs of Dockers Pants and 2 Dockers Polo Shirts for him. They were all on sale + 15% off and Free Shipping. He loved everything and I didn't even have to leave the house. Love Kohls.

when you check out at kohl's, tell them that you only want one and not the bogo. they should take 25% off that one item.

Re: Tired of buy one get one 50%

That buy one/get 50 off worked whenbtwins needed clothes, but I frown on these deals. Give me 25% off or forget it. Bought shoes like that a few weeks ago and would probably have kept one pair if on sale but just returned both. It takes a while to figure games out, and I tire of the process.

Dislike this too. Walgreens prices are so high that even with bogo half off, I’m still paying more than I would at Target or Walmart.

Yes, I agree!  I too think it is a huge "bye-bye" to see this type of marketing.  It usually causes me to look elsewhere!

I picked up the weekend papers for my neighbor recently and noticed that coupon manufacturers are also doing a similar gig: "buy two, get __$ off."  Might as well shop at Costco and/or Sam's and get a real deal on multiples, especially with the "instant coupon" deals they run every few weeks.

@MoJoV I agree with you, but it's not just clothes.  In the grocery stores it's the same thing!

With much of the population getting old(er) and many becoming a one person household, the last thing people need (or want for that matter) is 2 or 3 of something that they came to the store with the purpose of buying ONE of that same item!

I mostly shop at Harris Teeter grocery store.  They will let you buy one item and divide it by half.

However, that does not help people who are clothes shopping.

Why in the world would someone want 2 of most of the things they are shopping for?  Just doesn't make sense!!

Oh @Annabellethecat66 thank you so much for bringing up grocery stores are unfortunately starting this practice.  I lucked out on finding two little trays of pork ribs (buy one/get one) but usually it's massive quantities or more than I would be interested in.  The other one around here is you have to buy five of something before the discount kicks in.  Besides Caffeine Free Diet Pepsi that's basically a no for me.  Phooey.

I will not shop Kohl’s because of their false pricing games.
