When I left New York city to move to a cross-country location, I paid a kid about $20 to stay with the moving van to make sure no one stole my stuff. Money well spent.

Yes, well spent, but did you tip him/her?

Makes sense to me!!  If I'm in a position to be generous, then I will be!

@kaydee50 So where do draw the line?  Do you tip the worker that bags your groceries, your doctor, your dentist?

I tip everyone....but, in my opinion, the news delivery person comes out early in the morning and it doesn't matter what kind of weather we have or if her car breaks down or there is an accident.....for 30+ years I have gotten a paper(s) every day. This year I am giving each of them $150.

No I am not.  I am very generous with my time and money for people in need.

I didn't say you are. What makes you think I was talking about you?

@89135

I wait till everything is finished before I consider any tip. On time/friendly/knowledgeable and satisfaction of their installation. Add them all together.

Do my own math on this one.

@ninjawife  I tip service workers because they typically make below state minimum wage which is low and their employers depend on tips to make up the difference.  Truck drivers and helpers don't fall in this category as transportation workers and are paid livable wages.

In a word no...   Tipping has gotten out of hand.   As a secretary I didn't make much either but of course wasn't tipped.

Edited to add that I do give the guy that picks our trash and recycles a hefty Christmas bonus.
