It's not just the internet, people IRL just don't have any manners anymore. It's all about THEM. I had a man rush in front of me in a lunch line Friday. It was just so rude but I figured he was having a worse day than me so have at it.
I don't get out in public much anymore. Being around people is not pleasant. Salepeople are rude, customers are rude, drivers are rude. It's not worth getting worked up about it, I just stay home.

I read the article.
The author, Joel Stein, is probably the biggest troll of all.
The last 5 paragraphs of the article is the sole reason
why he wrote the article...to bi*ch & be heard.
And to get a cover story of out it.
He officially 'won'.
What ever happened to taking the high road & walk away?

I hear you, I'm so glad that I'm retired, I worked in a hospital OR. And elections were a nightmare. Screaming matches in front of patients, and intimidation by some of the Docs. I had a boss who was always trying to start something, but lucky for me I'm not easy to intimidate.

@Ms X wrote:I think the way trolls attack public figures on the Internet is terrible. Whenever there's a story about a celebrity, the comments are brutal. They must have very thick skins, or maybe they're laughing all the way to the bank. I know I would be. We see that kind of thing about hosts from time to time on this board.
As for arguing about politics and current events, I like a good debate, including humiliating people who troll me and are shown to not know what they're talking about. I don't strike first, but "I'm a counter-puncher." If you're going to call me stupid and if you're actually not as smart as me, expect to pay the price. No mercy.
Yeah been there done that. But said on another thread, not necessarily an admirable trait lol.

You're slaying the messenger. The message is important.
What ever happened to taking the high road while posting?
Then nobody has to walk away.
One goal of a troll is to make people walk away. If we do ....... they "won." Great thread @QVCkitty1. Thanks for the article.

2. “I feel worse after using
So many times, after spending time in these forums, I have come away feeling empty. I’ve even discussed with my husband how depressing it can be here. I’ve said to him, “If this is a true cross-section of middle class America’s thinking and behavior, we’re doomed. We are Ugly Americans.”
. . . Rather than point fingers, accuse or (ahem) attack, the sole intent here is to get us to think. Think about what we’re putting out into the world. Even on a small scale, what right minded person among us would deliberately contribute to making the world worse? Honest-to-Goodness, People, I am asking we think about what we’re sending out. And if you really don’t care about that, then can you at least consider how you want to represent yourself?
Thank you for staying with me if you have reached this point.
Excellent post, @IamMrsG . . . I wonder if it's possible.

@SahmIam wrote:I mentioned this exact thing on another thread as to why I support the mods. I've watched a site that I've been on since it first began (back in the 90's) turn to a vile, hate filled and disgusting place with mods that seem to encourage such behavior. Then there are the sites that WANT you to talk trash about people under the guise "well, they chose to be in the public/youtube/journalistic eye so they deserve it".
Why? WHY do we feel the need to rip people apart, insult them, threaten them, go after their family members, etc. Oh, that's right...because you can HIDE behind a screen. Cowards. Nothing but cowards.
What is worse is more and more of society is losing the ability to have conversations face to face; to look someone in the eye; to be able to hold a debate without insulting the other person.
We've done this to ourselves and it's only going to get worse according to those who study trends such as this.
I still have conversations with my granddog, Jasper. He never says a hateful word, and I'm always polite to
him!

The only instance I have read that magazine(?) Is in a doctors or hospital witing area. The most recent one, have no idea what month or even year it was dated, was more advertisement than content.
What little I did read was interesting, but a 180° different than my view of that particular topic.
As for the internet being the culture of hate? It is just another part of it, the part that conveys good and bad, very quickly. There was ",the culture of hate" decades before the internet and across the globe. Technology has only brought it closer for many to realize it.
