Tick problem

I have a 10 month old schnauzer . We live out n the country. He takes comfortis every month. Have found 4 ticks on him in the last week. They are dead but stuck like glue to him . 1st question is comfortis the best for fleas AND ticks. Vet put him on this. 2nd question are they hurting him by being dead but still on him Hair really thick so hard to find. Any help would be appreciated
