Hi, ShowMe! Sometimes I notice it here and on Facebook, too. It seems to me the threads about positive things get few comments, move down the page, and drop away barely noticed. Something about good news doesn't attract as much attention, create as much interest, imho.

I remember reading about a tv station trying a daily 30-minute news program that was only "good news" (I think it might have been a Ted Turner idea.) The ratings were dismal, the show was cancelled after a brief run.

Something about human nature? I don't know.

Hi dear......I know it is what draws more posters, I am thinking it is more a sign of the times....

Your thread raises interesting questions, ShowMe:

Are we more negative, and attentive to negative things, now than we were in the past?

Is there more "bad news" in the world now?

Or has the advent of 27/4 news on tv and the Internet made us more aware of bad news, and we're reacting to that?

Re: Thread Titles on Viewpoints

Very good observation, ShowMe. I don't mind participating on a thread about bad news if I think I have something to contribute that already hasn't been said. However, I don't feel it necessary to add fuel to some of the fires on this forum, so a lot of the time I prefer to read than post.

I genuinely believe some people enjoy wallowing away in how awful the world has become. The bad news threads give those people an opportunity to express themselves and enjoy having others agree with them. Not my cup of tea......

dBd.....I think it is a combination of all that you just said, plus the fact that the news is out there quicker today than it ever has been.

I hope folks aren't getting the wrong idea about why I started this thread.

Re: Thread Titles on Viewpoints

I really don't notice how many "good" vs "bad" titles there are on Viewpoints. I see many uplifting or "neutral" threads, though. I don't see an overwhelming number of negative threads.

I notice this almost every day. People have different reasons for focusing on bad news, I suppose.

It is a little odd that the latest headlines are brought here as if it isn't known that we all have access to TV, radio, and other electronic means and most are already aware of it, sometimes it's 2-3 days old.

This statement is so true. I have thought the same thing often. Some just have to be the first (they think) to deliver the news good, bad or indifferent.

Re: Thread Titles on Viewpoints

There are plenty of positive threads, but they drop fast as there isn't as much interest in discussing positive events. Some posters like to pick fights and they always do it on the more controversial threads which involve politics, current events, etc.

If you look really hard, you'll see plenty of threads with uplifting stories. Just be sure to reply to keep them active.

What can be said about a good news thread? That's nice. Great news. So happy for...

There was a Barbara positive thread; did everyone post on it?
