A discussion on another thread brought me to thinking about my former job. I was an ICU nurse for 42 years. I have been retired for 6 years. I know I could not go back now and do the job I did very well for all that time. I was able, competent and confident throughout my career. However, now I know that I could never mentally do all the stuff I did very well all those years. I retired because of back problems and needing ankle surgery that was going to require 6 months to recupperate from. But now , as i think about it, i know I couldn't do it . I feel like retirement has dumbed me down considerably.
Do you feel that mentally you could walk in tomorrow and do your old job? How long have you been retired?
