I agree.
If they made commercials where a child wants a cat or dog, begs his mom, mom takes him to a shelter and he walks out with 2

I mean really, how many people do they really reach if we need to change the channel when the commercial comes on?
I agree with all of you who are disturbed by these commercials, but have come to believe that those things that make us uncomfortable or repulsed are the things we should work to help or change. Not everyone needs a daily reminder of the suffering in this world (the kids with cancer hospital commercials, or the starving kids in other nations fall into this category for me as well), but every time I see such things, it not only reminds me how good I have it, but how much I need to do to help, and it motivates me to adopt a pet, go help at the shelter, donate pet food at the food bank, take my old towels and blankets to the vet, mail off a check to St. Judes, the Paralyzed Veterans, etc. I find the reminders uncomfortable, but they motivate me to stop my busy life, and help. If it does that for me, I hope it is doing it for other.

Yes.
Last night, one came on and before I could change the channel, I caught a glimpse of the dogs and honestly, I sobbed like a baby for about 20 minutes. It just breaks my heart.
I cannot even ready the entire thread for fear of emotionally wrenching feelings.
I contribute to several no kill shelters and used to contribute to ASPCA, but they got poor ratings at Charity Navigator.
I do wish those commercials would disappear. I don't need the images and words to know that people are cruel to animals and that thousands are suffering.
Stomach turning for me.

You and me both. I cry and cry even just till I can change the channel. It breaks my heart. I send money to Best Friends and D.E.L.T.A Rescue. Wish I could support them all. I hope they get a lot of help from that commercial cause it just kills me.

They're like 2 minutes long & that much airtime on a TV station can't be cheap, & they play on a lot of channels. I'd much rather they spend the money towards the animals than these ads.

They upset me to no end, which is probably the goal. I don't think they're aiming to upset anyone gratuitously, but clearly want, and need, to induce donations.

Agree. It is better to help even a little bit rather than to do nothing at all. There are so many ways to help animal rescue and other charities, even if you just help spread the word.

I can't watch those ads either. I change the channel. I donate pet food locally.
