This afternoon I took a call from a woman I had helped on Saturday...........I didn't design her kitchen, another designer did in another city...................but the woman was really distraught............after awhile of trying to help her understand what was done over the phone, I told her to just come down and bring all her paper work and I would help her make sense of it..................she did....................FOUR hours later............she had asked me every question under the sun..............I had showed her how a stacked crown molding was done.............I had showed her how light rail is done...................I had given her a probable explanation as to why they had order one type of triple bead over another and explaned the differences between a Roman full overlay door versus a Roman partial overlay door..................at one point I noticed it was after 6 and I'm off at 6..............I told her I needed to go but hold on and I would clock out.......................I did then went back to her and continued to answer her questions................once everything had been answered and she was feeling much better, as we were both walking out of the store she handed me a very tiny envelope........................On the front it said thank you.............when I turned it around I could see the edge of money.........inside was a crisp new two dollar bill and a tiny card........I told her "OH NO" I can't accept this..........she kept insisting and I said no I can't.........I'm just doing what I love to do, I can't accept.....................she then said but it's a prop and it loses it's meaning with out it, just read the card..............this is what the card said...................Being Kind, Being Helpful, Being Polite, Being Friendly...Being a person that gives these common courtesies is really not that common. It's kind of like a two dollar bill, they exist, however you don't see them that often. Common courtesy doesn't cost anything but it sure is worth a lot....Thank you.................................She told me she had 100 of these made............in a years time she had only been able to give out five...........I was number 5..................it made me sad................it's weird, I'm touched that I was able to help her..............but I'm sad that in a year...........I'm number 5, that is sad..........................................raven
