there are jets flying low over the city. I was taught that was the sound of freedom. But today, it's the sound of the Thunderbirds prepping for the Air Force Academy football tomorrow. Oh for the sound of birds!

Hi, Sylvia!

At one point, when I was living and working in Texas I lived a couple of miles directly south of the DFW airport. Very much like living on the airport grounds. Though it was easy access for all the traveling I did, the 24/7 noise was unnerving at first, really hard to grow accustomed to. When I moved out to Grapevine, near the lake and a wee bit more rural, the peace and quiet were so welcome. I could hear the real birds again!

Small world! Usually when I mention Grapevine, people have no idea where it is. Other than the fire ants{#emotions_dlg.sneaky}, I really enjoyed it there.

Funny...did you live in Grand Prairie? I currently live in the Addison area where there's a small airport...lots of private jets flying out from there. When I first came to Dallas in the 80's, my friends & I used to go to Buchmann Lake on Northwest Highway & wait for the Southwest Airline planes to take off...even on NW Highway, you could feel the back burn!! I'm sure you know all the areas I'm talking about! Cool

Hi, there, sidsmom! I know the Addison area, but not well. Isn't the Galleria near there? My apartment and our main office were both in Grand Prairie, just off Highway 360. Straight shot down from DFW. I felt "as one with the planes" sometimes.{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Lucky you to have the Thunderbirds! They used to come to our area but haven't for many many years. I don't know why. But I used to love to watch them!
