@just bee    Yes, according to the change of color in the block fence (my rain gauge), we got a good rain.  I was surprised they let the balloons fly this morning.  This is really weird weather this week.  Worst weather of the year for balloons and we have a fiesta!

@Kachina624

It was a perfect morning!  The Sandias and sky looked ominous -- a wonderful backdrop for the balloons.  Chilly!  I was able to stand outside the house and watch every minute without the sun in my eyes.

Just afraid if we get too much more rain, we'll miss tomorrow's launch.

@just bee    I'm worried about Thursday morning's special shapes launch.  Plus its kid's day.  What'll they do with 5,000 kids if the balloons can't fly?  Nightmare.

Can you imagine trying to keep up with a bunch of kids in that chaos?  I wonder how many they lose who are never heard from again?  Just kidding but it would be a challenge.

That's always my worry, too.  I've seen too many Special Shapes Rodeos canceled due to weather.  And we have so many new ones this year.  Did you see all the Special Shapes I posted this morning?

I always love the animal ones (of course!).

I'll pass on the clown ones, though.  Smiley Very Happy   Not afraid of clowns, but clowns and dolls just creep me out.

Do you know how many balloons there are this year?    I remember, way back when I went (90s) there were some 200 balloons in this event, at which point we only had about 100 here.    I have a feeling the numbers have grown.

I've heard various numbers bantered about but twice I've heard 648 balloons.  There are always "unofficial" ones that aren't registered that don't take off from the fiesta grounds.

Worst feeling in the world is when you've just let your dog out, then you get a whiff of skunk smell.  I have a dog door.  When the smell hits us, I race them to the door to block it.

@Kachina624

I'm in rural Arkansas.

Yes, the skunks are awful.  It seems like when one is around it stays on the property for weeks at a time.  And like the armadillos, they tend to be out in the very early mornings and late evenings and nights.  Just when the dog needs to go outside and it's hard to see too far.

My dog has a huge pen I can put her in, but the darn skunks have learned to dig under it.  I once let her out in the pen thinking she was fine, and then that smell hit me.  The darn skunk was inside her dog pen!  She's good about not actually attacking any other animal, but she'll run up to something.  And with skunks, that's close enough to get sprayed.

We've had plenty of skunks in our yard in Albuquerque.  Our neighbor had a porcupine.

I'll take the skunks!Woman LOL

@geezerette   I don't live in the country but, having always had dogs, have had numerous skunk odor abatement experiences.  One year my pack of 3 gentle collies, 1 Aussie, killed a very young skunk and I had to take it in my car to the vet's office to be tested by the state health department. Pehew.

Re: They're Up, Up, and Away in Albuquerque Today

Very unusual early morning weather for Albuquerque made for a striking mass ascension.  I've never before seen one like it.  I must say I prefer sunshine and beautiful blue skies.  Horrid weather predicted for the rest of the week.
