Is this some sort of local character?  And what the heck is that gray thing circling his head, under the hat?

Now this is just kind of creepy.

And I'm not even afraid of clowns.

Armadillo Moves North Across a Warmer North America - Scientific American

I'm thinking it's the continuation of armadillo "armor."

As for local, I've been here 27 years and I've never seen one in these parts.

Could be a Texan.  Or not.  The name of the balloon is "Sheriff Airmadillo" and he's from Newport Beach, CA.Woman LOL

Ok.  Now I see it.  He looked like he had a bandanna on under his hat.  It looked like it might be an Albuquerque spokesman of some kind.

Strangely, we have loads of armadillos around here now.  Never had them remotely near here years ago.  They leave a gazillion holes in the field--what a mess.  And they do really have four identical babies every time.  It's pretty cool to see the little ones all waddling around.

You're supposed to be the roadrunner state anyway.  We have them here now too.

Had a coyote in the neighborhood this week.

Wonder why we don't have a coyote balloon...

@geezerette   When we first moved to the Houston area, we had a rural property North of town in Porter, Tx.  We had Armadillos all over the place.  Dumbest animals on earth.  Did you know they can carry leprosy?  My husband used to chase them for sport.  I told him if he ever caught one, he'd be quarantined in the barn.

@just bee    Yes, according to the change of color in the block fence (my rain gauge), we got a good rain.  I was surprised they let the balloons fly this morning.  This is really weird weather this week.  Worst weather of the year for balloons and we have a fiesta!

They aren't the brightest bulbs in the animal kingdom, that's for sure. I found one frozen in the middle of my driveway last winter when we had that very cold spell.

Yes, I did know they can carry leprosy.  I don't like to let my dog get too close to them.  Often I'll see one right up at the house about dusk rooting in my bushes for bugs.  Between them and the skunks I have to check outside carefully before I let the dog go.

They're just oblivious to anything coming after them.  Pretty fast when they want to be though.

@geezerette    What part of the state do you live in?

Worst feeling in the world is when you've just let your dog out, then you get a whiff of skunk smell.  I have a dog door.  When the smell hits us, I race them to the door to block it.
