We have a Hurricane (Douglas) heading our way.  The first threat to our islands this season is supposed to reach the Big Island by Sunday.  Hopefully it will be downgraded to a Tropical Storm by then and we will all get some much needed rain out of it.  Hoping for no wind damage.

Local TV news is telling us all to go to the store and stock up on 2 weeks worth of food and supplies, board up our windows, etc. etc.  Here we go again. Sigh.

It's by me right now. Cat is under the bed.

I had a cat who would hide under the bed or behind the toilet whenever it thundered. She must have gotten caught out in it while she was a stray. If you walked past her while she was hiding she would startle you by meowing at you. I always thought she was saying, "Come on! Get in here where it's safe you silly human! We all need to hide under the bed right now!"

We had a thunder storm warning a couple of hours ago.

Just heard a loud rumble of thunder, flash of lightening and now it's pouring.

I hope this storm breaks our heat wave and washes out the air quality issue!

@ALRATIBA  Not too much. Tomorrow's forecast is for a high of 91 - slightly lower than temps earlier in the week. 😓 Think cool thoughts and drink fruity cocktails. At least we've been able to stop watering our lawn!

@nana59 Agree. There's something special and unique about thunder

Re: The sound of thunder

We had a long one yesterday.  It last almost an hour.  One of those big, fat super cells.  It does not break the heat.  For the past 3 weeks, it's been hot, humid in the upper 90Fs each day with an occasional storm.  Then the heat comes back, building each day.  The heat causes the storm, not a cold front moving through.  They are the worst kind of storm.  It sits there, dumping rivers of rain, then it dies out, leaving more heat and humidity.  More storms are scheduled for this afternoon.  Nothing has changed.

Hi @proudlyfromNJ

I can so relate!

Whenever there's thunder - my kiddencat Shadow makes a sprint for the den (our finished basement) to hide under the couch.

I've tried to catch him, mid-sprint, so I can hold him and console him, but a scared cat on a mission to hide, is no match for an oldhead!

No the kitty in the rain gear is not my kitty, ....  But like you I just loved the expression on the cats face, it looked like my cats if I try to put any type of costume on it....LOL 😸
