They certainly don't want a movie theater blown up or something equally horrific to happen while they're showing their movie. On the other hand, they're totally caving to North Korea's threats. Cancelling the movie will only empower North Korea, for now they feel invincible and they know the US fears them.
It kind of makes me mad, though. Hollywood has no problem dissing our soldiers, politicians, etc. in their movies and award shows, but they give in to a slimy North Korean dictator. I think it's a shame.
Spineless cowards. I've never respected them. IF it were possible to respect them any less now . . . but that is impossible as they are already lower than a snakes belly. Either make it or don't make it. But IF you make it, then show the dang movie. Dumb a**es.
And where are they going to show it when the theaters play it?
That would be a moot point at this moment in time.
The theaters dropped it before Sony pulled it. You can't show a film without a venue.
They too, are spineless cowards.
If 1/2 the theaters in the country hadn't dropped it the movie would be shown as scheduled. You can't blame Sony for their actions.
Sorry for the typos. My computer is really slow.

I call B S.
Sony has pulled the plug on the XMAS release of "The Interview," after a number of theater chains bailed.
Sony execs felt their out was if distributors yanked the film because of safety concerns. That would give Sony an out without directly bending to the hackers. Sony just released a statement, saying, "In light of the decision by the majority of our exhibitors not to show the film The Interview, we have decided not to move forward with the planned December 25 theatrical release."
The statement goes on, saying, "We are deeply saddened at this brazen effort to suppress the distribution of a movie, and in the process do damage to our company, our employees, and the American public."
The execs are underscoring the distinction between pulling the film because of the distributors rather than out of fear, saying, "We stand by our filmmakers and their right to free expression and are extremely disappointed by this outcome."

Everyone is so mad at Sony and the theater groups for pulling the movie, they seem to be missing the point... look who we're dealing with here. Sure, show the movie so everyone will be happy and Sony and Hollywood and the theater owners won't be cowards. Yes, it's infringing on our rights of freedom of speech, but is it worth even one life to show this movie?
It would only take one bomb in one theater full of movie goers, and it wouldn't only blow up the theater, it would blow up the whole situation. If the NK govt actually is behind this, how can anyone be sure they wouldn't do what was threatened? This is a dangerous situation. Is a movie really worth the possible consequences?
If it were just some regular hackers, it would be different. But the govt is now pretty certain that NK is behind it. Those spineless cowards at Sony etc. may be saving hundreds of lives.. but we'll probably never know for sure.

And many others put their lives at risk every day. Our military. Fort Hood. Military Recruiting Stations. Airlines. People working in New York City. People working in Washington DC. People in Boston.
I think you get the idea.

Well, there are many posts here who think rolling over with our white flag of surrender was the appropriate thing to do. Sad, isn't it? And you know what? I don't blame the people of NK for popping the champagne. We've become changed as a country, just as promised.

Instead of jumping to so many conclusions, why don't we wait to see how our country responds to this, and they WILL respond. And I wish someone would explain post #103 to me. What does that have to do with this whole situation?

They aren't saving any lives, if anything they're costing more down the road showing the world how easy we cave.

I bet they were all for releasing the Senate "torture" report too.

Americans don't hide and cower in fear. We go about our lives. Commerce continues.
Sony AND theaters lost on this one.
IF they truly believed in free speech and artistic freedom . . . RELEASE the MOVIE FOR FREE ON THE INTERNET!!!!! They should stand up OR sit down and shut up.

That's a safe bet for sure.
