</ Absolutely! I wouldn't dream of giving a gift card without including it....of course it means you may have to pay separately, but it's worth the peace of mind.

I wouldn't want to appear ungrateful for anything, ever. But I guess gift cards are one step up from getting some token gift that if the person knew me for more than five minutes they would know I would have no use for.
I have some gift cards sitting around somewhere. That's the thing, for me anyway. I put them on my desk or somewhere (don't have room for stuff like that in my wallet) and then forget about it. I think the last couple I got are for a restaurant that went bad several years ago and I don't go there anymore. Anybody who knows me knows that. But the gift card seems to be one of the 'now I can check it off in the "I did my duty" column' types of gifts.
I'd just as soon not have anything unless the person actually put some thought into it and got a gift card for something or somewhere where I'd actually want to use it. Otherwise, keep your money. Buy yourself something nice.
Or, you could just give me the cash. That's my favorite gift.
My husband has gotten me a couple of gift cards over the years but I believe one was for iTune, when I was still buying music, and the others were for Amazon. Now THAT was the best gift card ever!
I buy almost everything at Amazon.

My husband and I just used a restaurant gift card last night, so my answer is that I love them.
CB, I agree that Amazon gift cards would be the most welcomed!

I like gift cards, and I have given them too.

I think they can be good. But sometimes if you have a small balance left it can be hard to use up unless the cashier where you are shopping knows how to do it. It is best to know the exact card balance to tell the cashier when you are shopping. I think cash is always good.

First let me say that we ONLY shop for immediate family members NOT friends or every person under the sun!
We give gifts to open AND a gift card (or two) to everyone.
In fact my kids and grandkids request certain gift cards. For instance; This year my teen granddaughters requested gift cards to shop for clothing etc at their favorite stores (online or in person). My son in law likes gift cards from his favorite car parts place because he is fixing up an antique car. My son likes google play gift cards. (Those are just some examples)
The gift cards last forever and we haven't had any problems yet (fingers crossed).
My husband and I also receive gift cards (and gifts) and we LOVE gift cards!
To add- I posted this before. The real problem with shopping is people guess at what to buy. We make lists in our family to give to each other for gifts we would like. (Of course we also buy some on our own that we think of).
So I have never given a bad gift or gift card NOR have I ever received a bad gift or gift card.
The only one I am stumped on is my husband because when you ask what he wants he says nothing don't worry about me (lol).

You do it right! ![]()
Not that you need me to tell you that, of course. But you put the appropriate thought and caring into it and THAT is the essence of gifting.
