Re: The latest on Jahi McMath

My argument then is still the same now, there is no set standard for how long anyone grieves for a death, I say leave the family alone.

In our state, there is a line on the Death Certificate that must be filled in when the Death Certificate is filled out (immediately). You must put whether the deceased is cremated, or buried. If buried, the name of the cemetery/location must be included. I don't know how this family got by with this, since a Death Certificate was issued.

The CDC death certificate has more than two disposition options, and one of the options is "removal from state". I got the impression that the family were trying to get Jahi taken out of state, so that's all her certificate would say.

There would be additional documents, though. If you want to keep your loved ones ashes at home, you need a permit. If you decide to bury them, you need a new permit.

I agree, its a terrible tragedy and no one's business but the family and their loved ones involved.

In this case, no one does know what happened to the body {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes}

Grieving and refusing to face reality are two separate things.

But unfortunately they're dragging the school into the mix, so 'no one's business but the family' doesn't apply.

I think the point is that the family keep seeking media attention. They asked the school for the graduation honor, the school said no, so the family went whining to the media. They could have just let it go and not made it everyone's business. They wanted a petition, they wanted people to email and call the school so they could get their way. That's why this is being dragged up again, not because someone idly wondered "What happened to Jahi Mcmath?"

Permits and documents may be required where you live but not where I am, particularly in regard to cremains.

Also, the public does not even know which State Jahi was taken to. She may still be in CA, in another State or out of the country.
