interesting in that we were talking about Halloween at work on Friday and saying how when we were kids, we were told that there were "Bad" people who owuld put razor blades in our apples and drugs in our candy...
This was in the 1960's..Never happened to any of us, I am sure it happened to someone at some time-
did it scare us? yes, of course- Bad things DO happen, but we still went to lovers lane and never found a "hook" hanging from out car door, never found drugs in the ice cream from the ice cream man, we never encountered anyone dangerous in a hockey mask or with a chain saw, though popular movies "told" us about it-
Yeah, there are bad people who will use anything ss an opportunity for crime and bad things..
My BF had over 400 trick or treaters...don't think its dying out anytime soon...
(Frankly, in the '60's, very few drug addicts wanted to waste theirs on some stupid kids, doubt they do now, either)

It should have ended years ago. The townships should have a little celebration at city hall or something so the kids can still dress up and get candy.

They do that here- THEN, the kids go out for "real" trick or treating...maybe not the toddlers, but the bigger kids sure do!

we only had three(3) trick or treaters this year. I think that each year less and less parents are letting their children go door to door.

It depends on where you live I guess. I live in a small safe community. There are various businesses that do a Trunk or Treat, but also several neighborhoods where the children flock & are dropped off. Kids no longer run loose like we did & rarely without an adult.

We had a lot of kids for Holloween, the parents were with them. Holloween is a fun time for kids, they enjoy dressing up and going door to door and I enjoy seeing them in their costumes.

Those of us who grew up in the golden age of trick or treating are nostalgic about the fun we had in a more innocent time, and we feel sadness that subsequent generations haven't experienced the same, for a variety of reasons. If I had a grandchild of t&t age today I would prefer they do their Halloween Thing at school, the malls, parties, city gatherings, etc. for safety reasons. The kids don't miss what they've never had as far as door-to-door, they just like the idea of dressing up and getting candy. It's their elders who feel like they're missing something.

There was another thread here regarding trick or treating. Those that pass out the candy and those (like me) that no longer will do so due to the OP's post and warnings by the police. I also agree with post No. 3, the children and parent are fat enough and look like they've been eating candy all year long. Also, my lawn and parkway is littered with the wrappers that they toss. As soon as they get the candy, they gobble it and toss the papers all around. Now where are the environmentalists and the nature lovers to comment on that litter and behavior?
...it's so sad that you're self absorbed with what people look like.
Actually, it's sad YOU don't comprehend and understand what is written before you post. The School districts and Medical Communities have ads on television, literature, advisors, etc., that preach how obese the children in general are (not to mention the parents) in America. It leads to serious health problems - diabetes, circulatory problems, heart, blood pressure, dental carries, etc. You didn't address the home invasion nor the s8x offenders who were mentioned. You just wanted to put someone down for the day. You are a sad sort to need to bolster yourself daily with your words by being petty. I think it would be sad to have to live around you. Go and have some candy.

Horrible stories
For the first time we got zero trick or treaters. I think it's the end of a tradition. At least here.
