I am sick of it already. Changing channel.......
How stupid. You made your point that you would not be watching the Olympics so why purposely come on this thread and do the same? They have always done this why is it a problem with this Olympics?category VIEWPOINTS.... thread did not say only positive post.....
Certainly don't have to worry about that with you.
It's 2 weeks every 2 years, surely you can tolerate it or watch something else. Since the Olympics are on NBC, it would be rather strange if the Today Show didn't cover it.

I'm watching the coverage but trying to avoid anything involving Matt Lauer. Can't stand that man. Full of misinformation and twisted ""facts"" on opening night and phoney and pretentious to boot.
Have to wonder why the woman's weight even had to be mentioned by the OP though. The skit didn't hinge on her weight but rather the cultural difference between them.

What misinformation and twisted facts did he give?

I would be curious to know as well. Since Meredith was doing the commentary with him, were her facts twisted and misinformed, or just Matt's?

Of course the skit partially hinged on her weight. But she didn't care. That was the good part. She just enjoyed herself and it was part of her personality and presence. It's not against the law to be chubby for crying out loud. I don't know why some of you are so hung up on that one detail.

Jules, we're fighting an uphill battle here. It's time to die on the sword. LOL

I used to watch Today before I left for work; it's gotten in some kind of a boring rut these days. I doubt if it is the cast; it is just the retreat by all the networks from any kind of substantive coverage of the news. I don't care about celebrities all that much.
Anyhow, what a delight it was to see Meredith Viera at the games! She was tart and funny and fun to watch and Matt Lauer worked well with her.
The coverage I have seen has been very enjoyable. My schedule is crazy right now, but I had breakfast c. 4 this AM and the ice dancing competition was (I guess) being rerun and the US competitors were terrific! Very much enjoying the NBC coverage so far.
I hope the games stay fun--that is everyone's concern.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but when a person clearly states that a news commentator is "full of misinformation and twisted facts" that crosses the line of opinion. Interesting they can't provide any details to back it up, so it makes me think it's more sour grapes and just a general dislike of the man. I'm pretty sure he and Meredith were given the same script and that NBC has fact checkers. Maybe I was watching different Olympic opening ceremonies?
